What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Guests praise the George Hotel for its exceptional riverside location and friendly, attentive staff, making it a great base for exploring Hadrian's Wall. While some rooms and facilities may be dated or undergoing refurbishment, the welcoming atmosphere and good food, particularly the evening meals, are frequently highlighted. The hotel's dog-friendly policy is a plus, though some restrictions apply.
"in the most lovely location, we had a wonderful stay. We stayed in a spacious and modern twin, very clean and quiet room. Dinner and breakfast were good, and staff friendly. We had a lovely river walk. Lovely to feel welcome with our dog. Perfect location for Hadrian wall exploring!"

"First off. This is not a hotel that you would stat longer than 2-3 nights. If you are on a walking holiday it's good for you. Has been recently redecorated throughput, and room sizes vary from small ( queen size bedroom with little free space to twins with plenty of space). Bathrooms are modernised. Rooms are clean.
Second. We booked 1st week in May with clear intent of using the leisure facilities and lazing in the lively gardens down to the riverside. Unfortunately, and annoyingly, the leisure facilities have been defunct since August last year, and the riverside is fenced off, and the gardens are a mess, and only a third of it is available.... should have checked the previous reviews!
Finally, the dinner menu is constrained, but food quality is good, as is the service. Breakfast is rather mediocre, and on both mornings, the coffee machines were not working.
In summary, this is not the country manor type hotel of its past, but it is okay for passing through punters. Hence, the 2 star review."

"Used this hotel to stay one night as was up here for work and had a good sized car park to park the van in. The staff are friendly and hotel itself seems quite big. Rooms are ok, clean but could do with a freshen up. Good size garden, leisure part was closed for refurb. Food was good and reasonably priced. We had the George burger which was lovely, although the waitress did say it's huge and good luck with it to everyone who ordered it. Dunno what you guys think is a huge burger up north, but down south that's nothing. Lol, it was good though!"
