Reviews Summary

Bettys Café Tea Rooms is celebrated for its exceptional food, enchanting atmosphere, and consistently professional yet friendly service. Many visitors highlight the delightful afternoon tea experience, praising the sandwiches, scones, and cakes, often accompanied by live piano music. While it's a beloved institution with a rich history, be prepared for potential queues, especially during peak times.

"Our friend who lived in Harrogate for years suggested we go to Betty's for tea and it didn't disappoint! There was a line outside but it moved quite fast and we were seated within ten minutes. I got the club sandwich and my husband got the afternoon tea. Everything was yummy and looked fantastic! The service was stellar and the decor was very nice inside. We really enjoyed the afternoon there! I would highly recommend it."

Monica Puri Bangia

"Bettys afternoon tea was a delight. Been recommended by many people in the Harrogate area, so I took the wife. She absolutely loved it. She had the raspberry tea and me, the coffee. Sandwiches were good, scones were great, make sure you ask for more clotted cream and jam, you don’t have to pay extra, the cakes were delightful. Could do with a couple more though 😋

Unsure if extras, like additional cakes and sandwiches are free, some people around were getting additional, we were offered an additional sandwich which we took and it was not added to the bill, which was a nice surprise.

Stunning tea room, clean decor. Love pianist playing in the corner of he room is a beautiful touch.

Service was great, very attentive. Lena looked after us well.

Overall, a highly recommended experience if you’re in the area.

You can book online or queue up outside in the huge queue that is there daily!"

"Me and my partner dined here for the first time to celebrate her Birthday and we could not rate Betty’s highly enough. From the exquisite food and drinks to the attentive staff to the relaxing ambiance with the piano being played in the background. We will definitely return :)"

Budget eats Harrogate: haute or not of note? | Food

On the Bettys front, it is a much-loved institution, and like many iconic venues, it trades - as far as I am concerned - on former glories, on a simulacrum of inter-war tea room gentility, rather than actual quality food. It is not bad exactly, but historically I have eaten steadfastly OK food there at prices (that'll be £6.50 to £7.95 for an open sandwich, please) which made my eyes water. And that is after queuing as well.

No trip to Harrogate would be complete without at least contemplating a visit to the famous Bettys Café Tea Rooms. I duly carried out my contemplation as I walked past in the morning, put off by the long queue snaking along the pavement. However, as I wandered past with an hour to kill in the evening before my train back to York, the lack of a queue led to a reappraisal and soon I was seated downstairs in Bettys, greedily surveying the heaving cake trolley.

Betty's Afternoon Tea in Harrogate

Bettys Café Tea Rooms has been providing a memorable experience in elegant surroundings for over 100 years and little has changed from the staff uniforms to the famous recipes and specially blended teas. It is always worth admiring the remarkable displays of cakes and chocolates in the shop windows and possibly treating yourself to something to take home. A particular Betty’s favourite is their Fat Rascal, a sort of super-scone full of fruit and flavour.
