A quaint English tea room overlooking the Glastonbury Abbey ruins, Abbey Tea Rooms & Restaurants serves up a delicious selection of local Somerset cuisine, including warming homemade soups served with chunky bread and cottage pie. Each dish is made with fresh and locally sourced ingredients, and their afternoon tea is as traditional as it gets, with a choice of scones served with thick clotted cream and a selection of jams. Complete with linen tablecloths, fresh decorative flowers and fine china, this tea room is as authentic as it gets.

Of note is the Abbey Tea Room on Magdalene Street, where traditional Somerset cream teas can be enjoyed at most times. As well as tea, scones and a selection of cakes, the Abbey Tea Room also offers soups and light dining, and is situated opposite the Glastonbury Abbey car park. Nearby, the town of Street also features a number of dining establishments, with the Saffron being one of the area's best Indian restaurants, with further eateries at Street's Clarks Village shopping complex.

Glastonbury is famous for many things - the Tor, the Abbey, the Holy Thorn, its quirky shops, the legend of King Arthur, not to mention the world-famous music festival that takes place just down the road. It’s not, however, generally thought of as a foodie destination - although that’s starting to change thanks to the talents of Ayesha Kalaji, Executive Chef and co-founder of the Queen of Cups on Northload Street.

A traditional English tea room specialising in Somerset food, the Abbey Tea Rooms overlooks Glastonbury Abbey. Open a little later than many cafés in town, this is a great place to head for afternoon tea or just coffee and cake after a day of roaming. Open until 5pm, with Sunday lunches served 12-3pm.

I booked for Mother’s Day and came here with my parents for Afternoon Tea. Needless to say we were all seriously impressed with every aspect. The atmosphere was really lovely and the staff were kind, knowledgable and attentive.

I can only say that we were today and we had an exceptional sunday roast!. Everything is homemade and that makes the difference. Worth to say that the cheesecake (gluten free) is one of the best I've ever had.
