Reviews Summary

The Finnieston is celebrated for its excellent seafood, particularly oysters and fish and chips, and its charming nautical ambiance. While many praise the friendly and attentive service, some diners have found the portions small for the price and have experienced issues with food temperature and service attentiveness. Reddit+2

"This place was absolutely fantastic! If you’re looking for good seafood, this is the place to go! The atmosphere is really nice, staff is amazing, and the food was so good!"

Josephine Carou

"Made a reservation for yesterday early evening to celebrate a special occasion with my wife. Staff extremely friendly and very attentive but unfortunately I can't say the same for the food. £50.00 for a "cote de boeuf" small portion of Ribeye beef with a huge bone, totally over priced for what was served. £19.00 for haddock and chips which was nothing special."

David Ross

"Enjoyed dining at The Finnieston today. It’s got a great atmosphere—exactly what you’d hope for in a British pub that specializes in seafood.

I kept it simple and went with the fish and chips. The food was good, the service was quick, and the prices were reasonable. Probably about a 4 out of 5 stars, and I’d be happy to return."

Restaurants in Glasgow

A 19th-century inn turned into an elegant restaurant, the Finnieston retains the dark wood and narrow cubicles of earlier times, but today it is one of the new high-quality seafood restaurants that have transformed the faded Finnieston area into a fashionable district. The menu allows you to choose the fish and how it is prepared, the sauce, and salad or vegetable sides. You can also eat in the bar, but wherever you sit, choose from the enormous menu of fine cocktails including 15 variants on gin and tonic.

Glasgow's Best Cocktail Bars

It’s all about classy, grown-up concoctions here, predominately based around the 60-plus gins behind the bar at any given time. Try the Finnieston Club Cocktail (gin, house-made orange sherbet, lime juice, grenadine and Chartreuse Yellow), or a Rangoon Daisy (gin, maraschino, orgeat syrup, bitters and lime). The smart, fine-dining feel at The Finnieston gradually changes as the night wears on, and the crowd slowly changes from eaters to drinkers, and a nice atmospheric buzz settles in the bar.

The Best Cocktail Bars in Glasgow, Scotland, UK 2024

Described as Glasgow’s premier gin bar, this chic establishment was once a 19th-century Drover’s Tavern, now also incorporating a fine seafood restaurant. Its cocktail menu Undiscovered Depths is inspired by the local art culture and the restaurant’s nautical themes, with sea creature watercolours adorning the pages. Drinks are categorised and matched according to these ocean creatures characteristics, under categories such as Shark (cocktails with bite), Turtle (universally loved, friendly favourites) and Octopus (weird, wonderful and experimental).

We are not going to lie, all of the dishes we've seen coming out of The Finnieston since it helped breathe a breath of fresh air into the stagnant West end food scene have been outstanding. We could have chose anything on the menu and it would have looked great, but sometimes you just crave fish and chips. Fish and chips Finnieston-style that is - battered in theit own Apache Pilsner, (brewed for them by WEST Brewery), their chunky North Sea Haddock is served with pea puree, tartar sauce and hand cut chips.

How To Spend a Long Weekend in Glasgow

On our first night, we had an excellent seafood supper at The Finnieston, a bar and restaurant on a stretch of Argyle Street replete with fine eateries just south of Kelvingrove Park. With its cosy maritime decor and friendly staff, it's a great place for a drink or a bite. I had to order the Monster Munch Martini — with its picked onion garnish, it perfectly encapsulated the strong flavours of that favoured childhood snack — but I enjoyed the Tropical Old Fashioned (with grilled pineapple) even more.

Where to Eat and What to Eat in Glasgow!

Another Glasgow restaurant I really enjoyed was The Finnieston, a seafood restaurant and gin bar. The restaurant itself felt very historic; the building dates back to the early 1800s when it was used as a drovers’ tavern, and over the course of two centuries it has housed a cabinet-making workshop, a hotel, and even a dairy farmer and his cattle. The restaurant had a small yet focused menu, and since seafood is their specialty, we went with that.

Still, competition is stiff in the city, which has some of the best seafood restaurants in the land: Shucks, Crabshakk and the Finnieston, to name but three.
