What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Saramago Cafe Bar is celebrated for its delicious and inventive vegetarian and vegan cuisine, with many praising the creative pairings and fresh ingredients. Diners enjoy the unique atmosphere within the Centre for Contemporary Arts courtyard. While the food is generally loved, some reviews mention long wait times and occasional pretentiousness, with one reviewer noting a colder service experience.
"It has been almost 6 months since my visit to Scotland and I can still remember my meal at Saramago... Not only one of the best meals in Glasgow but one of the best vegan meals I have ever had. Layered flavors with inventive pairings made this meal a stand out on anyone’s trip. Almost all the tables were booked in advance, not having reservations still allowed us to enjoy a meal until the next reservation for our table began. We also sat for the theater prices special. It’s priced incredibly well with huge portions that would almost be enough food for 2. The cocktails are not to be missed and they have a few local beers on tap that were highly enjoyable."

"It’s a shame that it took almost an hour for our food. It tasted delicious and the ingredients were top-notch to be fair!
Other than that, the entire place felt a bit pretentious. We did not understand half of the words on the menu. Maybe because we are uneducated plebs.
Staff is colder than the Glaswegian weather."

"The Saramango Cafe Bar is located inside the CCA (Centre for Contemporary Arts.)
This is a vegetarian cafe with vegan options. The food is delicious. I tried the mezzo platter to share & the courgette fritters were my favourite! So good!
We tried the brownie which is like a hug for your insides!"

Anything and everything arts-related happens at the Centre for Contemporary Arts (CCA) on Sauchiehall Street but it's hungry work, engaging with all those aesthetics, so the premises have a café bar too in the shape of Saramago. It's on the floor level of a modest atrium space – like an interior courtyard – and it's vegan. This means snacks like dolmades with tahini and mint dip; a sandwich with tofu sausage, tomato and chilli jam perhaps; a salad like butterbean and red quinoa.
