What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Marleys is lauded for its delicious food, friendly and attentive service, and cozy atmosphere, making it a top choice in Folkestone. Many praise the generous portions and the quality of ingredients. While some found certain dishes slightly overpriced, the overall consensus is that the experience is well worth it.
"My wife & me went to Marleys last night after a lovely sunny day in Folkestone & we are SO glad we did. The staff on arrival were so welcoming & very personable, the atmosphere is very calm & we loved the feel. Our table was cosy & nicely spaced apart for a romantic meal. It's great they support local businesses & the Biddenden's red wine was very quaffable! We both had the Marley's burger & it was the best we have ever had. The toilets were like a spa & overall we were delighted that we ate here. Its a must to go to & we will be back. Thank you to everyone at Marleys for making us special memories of a wonderful meal. X"

"I've been meaning to come to Marleys for a while, it's been on the list for ages so the anticipation and expectation were high. Finally made it in late Feb25, I was being healthy but my bro was with me to balance it out. Went for pork belly and calamari starters. Man do we love pork belly, it's one of my faves, always a must try if it's on the menu - they didn't disappoint, perfectly cooked, juicy and crunchy, so so good. The Calamari is on every menu these days and shouldn't be hard to nail, but it was chewy/overcooked, coating was tempura light and it didn't keep together - a shame.
The mains saved the day and were all round winners, we love them them burgers, bro was very impressed with it. And I was very happy with the duck, cauliflower puree, kale were cooked perfectly and delicious. It was finished with excellent accoutrements (shallots, berries, pomegranate), with tangy shots of flavour complimenting and lifting the other flavours.
A nice vibe, and service was nothing short of excellent - nailed the attentive and friendly balance. Expensive, a bit, delicious a lot. Look forward to returning."

"Had lunch with my boyfriend here today.
The steak was delicious same as the pork bites, but won't say the same about the pulled pork sandwich.
Too much apple sauce in it, and the meat is not pulled pork it is just pieces of meat. Also, bread was soaked in a lot of oil.
Overall,Service was quick and the waitress was nice and polite. 😊☀️"

A vegan guide to Folkestone
You should definitely book a table at Marley’s because a) you probably won’t get a table if you just turn up; and b) your table will be reserved with your name spelt out in Scrabble tiles and that is just the best thing ever. You also definitely need to eat breakfast in this cosy yet stylish bistro (although breakfast is walk-in only, so you won’t get the Scrabble tiles, sniff) because that involves vegan bacon (supplied by fabulous local business Sister Seitan), plum tomatoes, mushroom, beans, grilled courgette and aubergine and a homemade crispy hash brown.
Folkestone Featured in Simply Vegan Magazine
To be fair (although that pompous man can still piss off), there were probably other more deserving restaurants, cafes and bistros in Folkestone, with a wider offering of vegan food, but I wanted to include Marleys because a) they do a vegan fry-up with vegan bacon (again, from Sister Seitan) and I haven’t seen that anywhere else ever (to be fair again though, I haven’t exactly travelled extensively); b) they use Scrabble tiles spelt out in your name to reserve your table; and c) it’s my article and I’ll include who I damn well want.
Where to eat in Folkestone
Heading back into town there’s a raft of independent spots, such as long-time stalwart El Cortador serving classic tapas and sherry, or homemade breakfast crumpets at all-day venue Marleys. The Folkestone Wine Company is the restaurant anyone would love as their local, run by Dave Hart and Polly Pleasance, knocking out gems of wild seabass, saffron and chickpeas, or it could be rump of lamb with onion sauce – it’s tiny, cosy, and a favourite of chef Angela Harnett who raves about the crème brûlée.
5 reasons why Folkestone is the best place to live
The high street and the Old High Street also have some of my favourite spots like Folklore - a good bet for a coffee or a £5 cocktail on a Wednesday night - or Marleys - a restaurant serving up dishes with Kentish products and at affordable prices. Breakfast, lunch or dinner, the food is really good regardless of the day or the time. I also like to pop in just for a drink and love loveeee their sparkling Kentish white wine Bacchus.

Other popular choices include Aspendos Turkish restaurant, Marleys, El Cortador tapas, Annapurna Nepalese restaurant, Steep Street Coffee House and Pickup Pintxos. Plant-based restaurant Dr Legumes, based in a converted shipping container in the harbour car park, is a Community Interest Company, serving great food in a stylish setting. And another highlight has to be the Leas Lift Café, which opened at the end of 2020.

The best places to eat and drink in Folkestone
This popular all-day diner has just moved to bigger premises where it serves up a farm-to-table menu of hits featuring local produce. So there might be Romney Marsh lamb chops on the menu alongside pork with Kentish cider gravy. Sharing boards do particularly well including the Garden of England vegan option.
The 5 Best Pet-Friendly Gluten-Free Spots in Folkestone
Food was divine, portions generous, gluten free options for my husband, the decor, atmosphere and music absolutely spot on and the staff super lovely, kind and attentive. Not surprised there was a little wait for the table, so worth it in their designated comfy area.

A Vegetarian and Vegan Paradise Tucked Away in the U.K
A charming restaurant on the Old High Street and owned by the cutest couple in Kent. While I’m mostly vegan these days, I’m still a little obsessed with halloumi burgers. They make one of the best in Folkestone.
