For quirkiness and cool sounds on tap, The Chintz, next door to Mine, is the go-to destination in Falmouth, often soundtracked by local band Pinnacle Sound (think roots meets dub beats). Beerwolf Books, The Brig, Small Shops and Lawrance’s are all great places to while away the time with a drink or two. Meanwhile, at the Poly arts venue, Solskinn offers coffees by day and cocktails by night and is the home of the (self-proclaimed) best espresso martinis in town – although this is a hotly contended title in Falmouth.

After, head across the road (or down the rabbit hole) to The Chintz Bar, where you’ll be mesmerised by the madcap memorabilia to accompany your drink(s) of choice. Later, for a quick pick meup, excellent espresso martinis can be found at Scandi-inspired Solskinn on top of The Poly, Falmouth’s vibrant arts centre and community hub. If a glass of red is more your thing, Kernowine on Killigrew Street is worth a visit – as well as a bar it’s also a wine shop and school with an ethical, sustainable ethos.

A year ago the three of us got together and decided to build our own bar exactly how we wanted it with no restrictions and no rules. Inspired by our favourite book, Alice In Wonderland, and in homage to the late David Bruce, our task was to create a little haven where people could escape, let their hair down and experience something new. Not wanting to be just a bar, we have built The Chintz in the hope that it can become a creative space for people from all walks of life.

Chintz is an independent bar tucked away in a cobblestoned courtyard, at the top of the Old High Street in Falmouth. Known for its unique and vivid interior decorations, Chintz has a vibrant atmosphere, perfect for a cocktail on the terrace, or a pint in the courtyard. Since Chintz recently took over the building below as well, the new bar ‘Underland’ stays open late, meaning that your sundowner drink in the courtyard can continue over into the evening.

Gather your fellow art students, housemates or work pals, pick a cosy pub (we recommend Beerwolf, The Front or Chintz) and get set up with drinks and drawing supplies. You could sit and sketch your surroundings, work on a group art piece or bring along a drawing game to get everyone inspired. Our ‘Art Out The Box’ prompt card set is ideal for this — pair together a subject and technique card and see where your inspiration takes you!

Kitchen: Just next to Chintz and Hand Bar in the little courtyard, sits the Kitchen. While there is no seating inside and not really a menu with options to choose from, the chef will never disappoint in his creations inspired by local and organic produce that is in season. It is also one of the nicest places in Falmouth to go for a peaceful atmosphere to read or get some work done.

As you amble through the scenic streets of Falmouth you will be taken on a journey of beer discovery as you stop at six different destinations through the town; The Working Boat, Underland (The Chintz), Lauter Bottleshop, The Cornish Bank, The Front, and The Seafood Bar. You will find us at The Seafood Bar alongside Overtone and Verdant – the chief organisers of the epic trail.

One of the quirkiest pubs in Falmouth, Chintz Bar is an exploration of fantasy, patterns, walls of mirrors, vintage furniture and secret rooms. Specialising in wines, cheese, beers and cocktails, Chintz is an extraordinary bar full of surprises, and we highly recommend you experience it!

And an instant hit was the cobbled Old Brewery Yard, whose ground-level bar Hand serves local craft beer (such as Verdant) and, upstairs, the unmissable Chintz Bar serves up pure #instagold kitschness, from secret rooms and upright pianos to plastic toys and chandeliers.

Unfortunately the Chintz was booked out for an event, so we decided to go straight to dinner at Restaurant Four. This is where we received the cutest welcome ever, with a congratulations card and banner on our table.
