Diners rave about The Ferry Boat Inn's stunning riverside location and the quality of its classic pub fare, especially the fish and chips. The friendly service and dog-friendly atmosphere are consistently praised, making it a beloved spot for both locals and visitors. While some find it a bit pricey, the generous portions and beautiful views generally justify the cost, creating a truly memorable dining experience.
"Wonderful pub with a great atmosphere, perfect for stopping by in the evening after a day of activities. I came here after a walk around the Helford Estuary with my family, the pub was busy and had a good atmosphere and we sat outside with some drinks and then ordered food. The food was all really good and tasty and service was prompt despite it being a busy day. The view from sitting outside is beautiful and really relaxing to be able to gaze out across the water at the boats."

"Friendly helpful staff. We didn’t have a reservation but a table was cleaned & made available for us. We both ordered the specials. The crispy fish tacos were good, but to be great - the pineapple salsa needed a little sweetness and more of it.
The steak sandwich was tasty - steak cooked to perfection. Would recommend. Note: barking dogs and people noise level is high!!"

"Fabulous pub located on the Helford River. Small menu but there is a specials board offering good food with generous portions. There is a car park if you prefer not to walk there along the southwest coastal path."

Where to eat and drink in Cornwall
There's no such thing as an ugly butterfly, in the same way as there is no such thing as food waste." So says Scottish-born Adam Handling, who has delighted the culinary world with his commitment to making exquisite dishes with zero food waste. True to his cause, Ugly Butterfly combines ingredients sourced from growers, farmers and fishermen across Cornwall into ingenious plates, served in a glass-walled dining room strung with dried flowers. Located above the golden sands of Carbis Bay beach, Ugly Butterfly is a unique fine dining spot where using as much of every animal and vegetable is as important to the chefs as serving up all-bells-and-whistles dishes is. Start with local oysters and finish with a Food fight (chef Adam Handlings winning dessert on BBCs Great British Menu), with courses such as hogget with Jersey Royals, and Cornish brill with mussels in between. There will almost certainly be some playful elements too (hello dry ice!) so be sure to bring your camera.

With its roaring fireplace and flagstone floors, the 300-year-old Ferryboat Inn is a cosy place to tuck into some decent pub grub. It's sat on the North Helford Passage on the waterfront and surrounded by woodlands and lush fields, making it not only dog friendly but incredibly picturesque too. On sunny days you can sit on the terrace and soak up the glorious views, but when winter arrives, beside the fireplace is the place to be.

Down in one of my favourite areas of Cornwall (Helford river), the Ferry Boat Inn is perfectly placed if you’re doing the beautiful riverside coast path walk along from Durgan. There’s outside seating (and of course plenty of space on the sand to sit with a drink too!) that looks out over the river and across to the Lizard peninsula. Visit the Ferry Boat Inn website
