Reviews Summary
The Anchor Inn is praised for its picturesque riverside location and stunning beer garden, offering a delightful escape. While many enjoy the high-quality British cuisine and friendly service, some reviews mention inconsistencies, particularly with children's meals and occasional food preparation issues. Overall, it's a highly recommended spot for its ambiance and generous adult portions.
"Beautiful pub situated bang on the river Exe.Great food and atmosphere. Plenty of outdoor seating as well as a small play area for children.Very polite helpful staff. Good selection of great quality food. Room was very well decorated, hot shower too. Highly recommend a visit."

"What a little gem of a place to stay, my room was very clean and well turned out, the proper British menu in the pub was well thought out, and the food was above restaurant standards, I will definitely use this pub/guest house when in this area again."

"Early evening meal here. The location is great with beautiful gardens. The restaurant also nicely done out. Let down however by the first impression when drinks were delivered to the table in half empty glasses, no ice or garnish. Very bizarre. Then the childrens burger left alot to be desired. I can't understand why so little pride or effort is made for children's meals. Adults meals and dessert were all good however. But probably wouldn't return based on overall quality. My child deserves a good experience too!"

In August 2019, Fif and Ann Buckingham took over The Anchor Inn, Hartland. The hotel had been neglected for many years and was in a parlous state; comprehensive rebuilding and redecoration were required before guests could be welcomed back to this 16th Century inn, with its pub, hotel and restaurant. At the rear of the pub is a car park and a south-facing sun-terrace with lovely rural views.

I was looking for another Devon pub to while away the hours whilst our son was at a South West Music School’s workshop http://www.swms.org.uk/, when I found The Anchor Inn, just outside of Exmoor, on the South East tip. I called them on the Friday afternoon and was immediately put at ease by the lady […]
