There you will find a surprisingly hefty afternoon tea starting with sausage rolls and ending with a selection of sweets, including an ethereally light elderflower and lemon choux bun, with sandwiches and scones in between. Tipsy tea, too: three matched cocktails, the “Just Peachy”: gin, earl grey tea, peach and basil shrub and lemon.

The Dome near the Princes Street Gardens is a must-visit for fine dining in the most lavish and traditional settings. This was most definitely among my most memorable dining experiences in the city, partially due to the high ceilings, glistening chandeliers, and grand interiors!. I sampled a plethora of menu items here, but none captivated me quite as much as the smoked salmon.

The site on which the Dome stands was originally planned for the Royal College of Physicians by James Craig. It was later acquired by the Commercial Bank in 1843, Craig’s building demolished, and the bank was erected as the only freestanding structure on George Street. The Dome was a very crowded tea room, and we felt the quality of the food was not that great. The bread was a little stale, which was disappointing. However, it felt like a more traditional, everyday tea room, where you could meet casually with friends.
