What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Spry Wines offers a unique experience with its focus on natural wines and a seasonally changing menu of creative small plates. While many praise the exceptional flavors and knowledgeable staff, some find the portion sizes small and the prices high for the value. The minimalist ambiance is appreciated by some, though others have noted issues with ventilation and noise levels.
"Amazing experience at Spry Wines. The food was amazing and had such interesting flavour combinations! The camembert basque cheesecake was so delicious and so interesting.
The place is very minimalistic and the staff are all very friendly. The prices are quite expensive for the portion sizes but we were happy to pay the amount for the experience."

"This wine bar missed the mark for me. The list is packed with natural wines, which may suit some tastes but felt a bit inaccessible. What really let it down, though, was the atmosphere — all you can smell is food being cooked in the central bar on what seemed like a camping stove, and the whole place just stank, with no ventilation. Not the kind of setting you want when you’re out for a glass of wine.
Not least, if id paid £60 for their tasting course id be even more disappointed at the primitive cooking."

"We stopped in spontaneously to escape the rain and were lucky to get a seat. It seems to be a very popular spot, and it’s easy to see why.
We received great wine recommendations and enjoyed some delicious food. The salami and homemade gnocchi were especially excellent."

Edinburgh's best wine bars: 12 to try
When Spry opened, it felt like a wee bit of London’s Shoreditch had been picked up by a UFO and transported eight hours north. Several years and a pandemic later, the natural wine bar has earned its spurs and then some. Its latest range of small plates to accompany its imaginative selection of bottles is a winning combination, and its refreshing stripped-back vibe is the ideal contrast to the nearby £1 billion St James Quarter upmarket shopping centre.
