New favourite meal unlocked 🔓🦞 We visited First Coast in Edinburgh’s Dalry Road, just a short walk from Haymarket railway station, and the food blew us away. Cannot recommend the lobster burger more but everything we ate and drank was absolutely delicious - and there was so much more on the menu we want to try! We will definitely be back soon 🤤 #edinburgh #edinburghrestaurants #edinburghfood #ed...

Reviews Summary

First Coast Restaurant receives consistent praise for its delicious, well-seasoned modern Scottish cuisine and attentive, friendly service. Diners highlight the cozy ambiance with its unique rock walls and the perfectly crispy chips as standout features. While most experiences are overwhelmingly positive, one review mentioned an unfortunate incident of foodborne illness and poor customer service in response.

"The food was delicious and well-seasoned! They also made the steak the way my partner and I liked. Service was great and friendly as well. I highly recommend the foods in the photos of this review.

Also, this is another place in Scotland where the chips are perfectly crispy on the outside yet it is soft when you bite into it. How is this possible? I am a tourist here in Scotland and wish my hometown made chips like this."

Lily

"Fantastic little spot tucked away from the main tourist drag in Edinburgh; my friend and I went quite early (5:15) and were the only people in the restaurant but it quickly filled up and the ambiance was lovely. Food was really great — I had the chicken and my friend had the lobster burger. Would also recommend the bread with olive oil to start (generous portion!)"

Siena Ferrick

"You have to check out First Coast in Edinburgh for an amazing local meal. The food is absolutely outstanding, with the chefs brilliantly showcasing fresh Scottish ingredients in every single dish – it's both sophisticated and incredibly delicious. What makes the place even better is the exceptional service - the staff are super friendly and accommodating. The vibe is cozy and perfect for a great night out, though honestly, the music could be a bit more in sync with the relaxed atmosphere. But that’s a tiny detail in what is otherwise a top-tier culinary experience that you won't want to miss."

Best Restaurants In Edinburgh 2024

First Coast, is local, independent neighbourhood restaurant located just a short walk from Haymarket train station on Dalry road in the city’s west end. The restaurant has earned a strong reputation for serving modern Scottish food over the 20 years since it opened and is named after a small village in Wester Ross in the Northwest Highlands of Scotland where the owner fondly remembers eating delicious Scottish produce during his childhood holidays. Daily deliveries of fresh fish and Aberdeen Angus steak from Henderson’s butchers as well as a variety of tasty vegetarian options and a cosy and welcoming setting make it a must for anyone visiting the capital.

Haymarket/Dalry's Best Restaurants: Restaurants in Edinburgh

Great food, great staff, and a great atmosphere really make First Coast stand out in the Haymarket area. There aren't a lot of great places to eat as you go further West in Edinburgh so this restaurant is well worth seeking out. They're open for lunch and dinner and you'll find an interesting mixture of imaginatively presented dishes.

Eating In Edinburgh

First Coast is a great bet in the underserved area of Gorgie-Dalry, an area known more for cheap cafs and takeaways. Lovely wooden floors, cool walls and a fireplace, this cosy, inexpensive and friendly eatery has a daily changing menu, with lots of light, vegetation options (despite having a meat award!).
