Though there are a few veggie options, this is really a haven for meat lovers. All the cuts are from well-bred and well-fed animals, sourced from the local Wallington Estate cattle in Northumberland. The burgers come with a variety of toppings, from guacamole and jalapenos to blue cheese and mushrooms.

Tango is a self-proclaimed “social bar and kitchen” and the go-to spot for burger-lovers in Durham. Their extensive menu features an amazing variety of mouthwatering choices, all made with prime meat cuts and fresh local produce. Take your pick from simple classics with beef patties, pickles, onion and burger sauce, or less conventional options like The Sunday Burger, which comes with a burger patty, a pork stuffing patty, cheesy potato spread, parsnip strings, proper thick gravy and a Yorkshire pudding.

Walking down from central Durham and crossing into Elvet, you will no doubt enjoy the historic surroundings of the city. Built into Old Elvet Bridge, with the building having served as the bridge house for collecting tolls on entering Durham and parts of the building dating back to the middle ages as a Chapel, Tango already has a great deal of character in just its bricks and mortar. Tango is an independent restaurant that provides the best in comfort food with a modern flavour.

If the ultimate comfort food is what you’re after, take a visit to Tango Durham. The food on offer here is sure to get your taste-buds tingling with American-style steaks and burgers, chicken wings, nachos, topped chips and more on the menu. For us, we absolutely cannot resist their Diablo burger with chilli cheese, chorizo, inferno nduja chilli spread, low slow onions, matchstick potatoes, pickled jalapenos and aioli.

Tango delivers classic American flavours with a focus on quality ingredients and bold combinations. Their burger menu is where they truly shine, showcasing carefully sourced meats and creative toppings that elevate the humble burger. Ordering online was a breeze, and our food arrived piping hot – the patties still juicy and the buns perfectly toasted.

I love these: Golden Pearl (authentic cooking in an Asian supermarket), Rabbit Hole (Dim Sum), The Cellar Door (modern European food), Turkish Kitchen (lovely Turkish food), Tango (burgers to rival Fat Hippo), Turtle Bay (Caribbean chain) and The Food Pit (many street food vendors under one roof).

Tango Durham is the place to be if you're looking for some tango action while in Durham. Whether you're a beginner or have two left feet, there's a dance for you. The decor may not be fancy, but the atmosphere is cozy and the music will have you feeling like you're in Buenos Aires.

Zak and Sam are no strangers to the hospitality industry, currently owning two other venues within Durham – Tango on Elvet Bridge and the Rabbit Hole on Hallgarth St, which also offers distinctive pan-Asian fusion dishes.

Finally, my favourite burgers in Durham are from Tango, which does various smash burgers and other grilled mains. Though on the slightly pricier side, it’s a great place to take family (and dog friendly, too!).

Situated in a perfect little spot on historic Saddler Street, the burger joint has a great atmosphere and even better food with all of their produce being sourced from local and well established suppliers.
