Reviews Summary

Gallery 48 is praised for its delicious and flavorful tapas dishes, served in a lovely atmosphere with friendly and attentive staff. Many reviewers highlight the reasonable prices and the unique blend of art and cuisine. Some minor complaints include the occasional wait for certain dishes and, for smaller tables, a lack of space.

"We made a last minute booking on the phone and the staff were great to find a slot to squeeze us in!

I have previously not had good experiences with Tapas, but this restaurant was excellent. Every dish we ordered was full of flavour and a great size.

I would recommend going with 3-4 people as an ideal group size to share all of the plates.

The restaurant itself had a lovely atmosphere that felt like a genuinely good and friendly place to eat!"

Kyle Watson

"We booked a Brunch for 8 of us to surprise our friend who is expecting her first baby soon. Can’t recommend Gallery 48 enough for this type of occasion, the staff were amazing. We’ve all been a few times for dinner but this was our first time trying the breakfast menu and it was sooo good and so affordable as well. We booked another table for in 2 weeks time so we can come back again!"

Lauren McGurk

"Food was excellent and staff were attentive , mixed platter was excellent value for money at £17 . Ordered 5 additional tapas and two of them came after we had finished everything else which we thought was a bit strange ( maybe easier to make a few of these dishes at once? ) . Also beer selection was good and if you are into Gin there's some amount on offer"

John

The Culture Trip

An Expert Guide To The Best Cafés In Dundee

An indie counterpoint to the V&A cultural behemoth, tiny Gallery 48 is a one-stop cultural shop in the West End, often hosting art exhibitions by graduates from Dundee’s Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design. It’s also a tapas bar serving gambas (shrimp), chorizo and churros, as well as a great selection of Spanish wines and Scottish gins. Food intolerances are well catered for, and the restaurant doesn’t stop serving until 10pm, a rarity in Dundee.

Contemporary and stylish with its hanging red lanterns and black furnishings, diners can eat in one of two ways here: either by selecting one of their set menus available during dinner or going à la carte. Because it’s such a small space with just 12 tables, you may want to book ahead or go early, as they do take reservations up until 2 pm each day.

One thing I really love about Gallery 48 is that they’re big supporters of local artists – hence the name. There’s art dotted around the walls and there’s also a print rail with lots of affordable work on sale – definitely have a browse. It almost feels like you’re sitting in a contemporary art space while you’re sipping on a coffee or enjoying some delicious food at Gallery 48 – although much more relaxed of course – and the crisp white walls only add to this effect.

Sample more local delights at 71 Brewing, as well as their own 71 Lager (the secret’s in the soft water, apparently) in the company of “levlay” (lively) West End locals, or at Gallery 48, which specialises in “art, coffee, gin and tapas”. It’s in West Port, the city’s coolest area right now, where you’ll also find Spex Pistols, surely the hippest opticians in Scotland: a hotspot for local musicians, it was once visited by Johnny Marr.
