Reviews Summary

The Cambridge Chop House offers an elegant yet rustic dining experience in a prime location, lauded for its excellent service and cozy ambiance, especially its Sunday roasts and impressive wine list. While many praise the quality of the food and generous portions, a notable concern is the inconsistent steak quality and perceived high prices by some patrons.

"Absolutely lovely food, one of the best meals I've ever had.
The portion sizes for the price were more than enough.
The food itself had lovely complimentary flavours and the dishes themselves were presented lovely.
Waitresses checked often to make sure the food and everything was okay but not too much we felt harrassed."

Leanne Black

"Can't rate this place highly enough! They accommodated my request for a specific table, even though we booked quite late, and our slightly awkward changes to standard dishes were dealt with easily and with a smile. The service was fantastic, the food fabulous, and there is a nice choice of non-alcoholic drinks, so we could have some sparkling dealcoholised wine. Would absolutely recommend thst you eat here if you're in Cambridge!"

Sarah

"Absolutely amazing! One of the highlights of my trip. Coming to the Cambridge Chop House for a Sunday roast was the best decision I made - it completely redefined my view of English cuisine. Now, when I think of English food, I think of their beef Sunday roast.
The interior is warm and cozy and its location in the heart of Cambridge makes it perfect for a relaxed lunch after exploring the city. The team is incredibly kind and welcoming. I recommend making a reservation if you’re visiting for Sunday roast. Portions are generous, the food is delicious and the prices are very reasonable. I wholeheartedly recommend this place!"

Cambridge Bars

Sister restaurant to St John’s Chop House, with trademark skeleton behind the bar, this is where retiredmartin spends Valentines day; he must do, as he commented that this is where “some CAMRA members would delight at tipping up on Valentines Day for a half and being turned away, declaring it “not a pub”, which is, err, exactly what I did a couple of years ago!. It’s only out of guilt and a wish to remedy that faux par that I returned to the Chop House. Nevertheless, we asked for a drink and were tentatively allocated a table, and offered a food menu, and disappointed the waiter by only having beer.

You won’t find many Michelin-starred restaurants in Cambridge but there are enough well-known chains, proper pubs and cosy bistros to keep most diners happy, including a Grade II listed branch of Jamie’s Italian, The Cambridge Chop House for traditional British grub, and Mediterranean flavours at Cotto on Gonville Place. Ale drinkers tend to head to the pubs of Castle Street or historic watering hole The Eagle, while students looking for something a little livelier can be found hitting the dance floor at Lola Lo and Fez.

Our list wouldn't be complete without a special shoutout to The Cambridge Chophouse, only a short walk from King's College Chapel in the heart of the city centre. With affordable prices and a quaint atmosphere, the venue is spread over two floors and is great for romantic candlelit dinners. Tuck into classic British mains like pan-fried duck breast or steaks cooked however you like them, followed by split an apple and cinnamon Yorkshire pudding for dessert.

A friendly bistro opposite King’s College, The Cambridge Chop House is all about British comfort food. Go here for a really good steak: the restaurant specialises in interesting chops of meat, with a ‘Top Draw’ menu offering premium cuts like Japanese wagyu. The natural drink of choice here is a glass of red, and luckily the restaurant has an excellent wine list focusing on the Languedoc-Roussillon region of France.

What: If you're in Cambridge for the weekend, end your visit on a high with a slap-up Sunday roast, which we highly recommend you do courtesy of The Cambridge Chop House. As the name suggests, it’s a meaty affair, where high-quality cuts are used to create a menu of no-nonsense British staples, and its Sunday lunch is very generous - choose from beef, pork belly or half a chicken with all the trimmings.
