What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
MillWorks is celebrated for its unique historic mill setting and picturesque riverside location, offering delicious modern British cuisine. Diners frequently praise the quality of the food, especially the steaks and ribs, and the attentive service. While the atmosphere and food are largely lauded, some mention the automatically added service charge as a minor point of consideration.
"A unique dining experience in a stunning location.
The pub is on the canal at the edge of a park and has a large wooden mill wheel still in operation.
The food is gastropub / restaurant level quality and frankly delicious.
Looking forward to returning for a Sunday roast, or dinner a
Rather than just lunch."

"Dining Club Meal Friday 25 April 2025
The Father and Daughter hosted this Dining Club Meal, as they had eaten here before, and my sister and myself came here for the first time, we knew where the venue was.
When we arrived, (we were late, and it was my fault) we saw our hosts already seated, and waiting for the guests to arrive, we looked at the Drinks Menu, and ordered our drinks, three ginger beers, for the Father, my sister and myself, and a Diet Coke for the Daughter, and afterwards we ordered our Starters.
My sister, myself, and the Daughter had buttermilk Crispy Squid with confit garlic and lemon mayo, and the Father had Mint and Pea Soup.
For the Mains my sister, myself, and the Daughter had lemon sole with new potatoes, seasonal greens, and caviar lemon butter sauce, and the Father had roasted lamb rump, with pea puree, dauphinoise potatoes, spring greens, leeks and peas, with more drinks, three bottles of ginger beer, for myself and the Father, and two glasses of Alcohol free Guiness for my sister and the Daughter.
For the Dessert, I had two scoops of Vanilla Ice Cream, and my sister, and the Daughter had Apple and Rhubarb Crumble in a Yorkshire Pudding with ginger ice cream, and the Father had
Passion fruit Tart, with mango gel and prosecco sorbet.
Both the food and the service were very good, I have to mention the waitress Eleonora from Argentina, and the waiter Alec, and we would come back here again, recommended."

"We managed to get a last minute reservation for Saturday evening and it did not disappoint. My girlfriend and I were very pleased with our meals, the steak was tender and cooked to our liking and the seafood cavatteli was lovely. The service was very good and we would highly recommend."

Our Pick of the Best Restaurants in Cambridge for Al Fresco Dining
We wouldn’t usually recommend a pub as our child-friendly option, but we have to make an exception for the Millworks. Based in an old mill, this amazingly bright and light building feels like you’re outside even if you’re not in the great outdoor area. There’s a special children’s menu featuring all their favourites like fish fingers and mac and cheese, as well as a couple of dishes for adventurous youngsters, and a colouring picture.

With glowing TripAdvisor reviews (including a glowing 4.5 rating), it'd be worth eating here even if you weren't going for the steak. However, users of that site have singled out the flat iron steak as the single best thing on the menu- so you've got to go and try it for yourself, right?
13 Amazing Places to Eat By The River in Cambridge (by a Local!)
If you can get one, there’s a few tables outside The Millworks right next to the millpond with lovely views over Coe Fen. This side of the river tends to be less touristy and more relaxed than a little further upriver at The Anchor, and I’ve eaten here quite a few times. The small plates are the real stars and are ideal for lunch, with the grazing plate perfect to share between two.
Foodie Top 5: Cambridge ice creams
If you’re a Cambridge dweller of a certain age, you might recall that the building now home to the excellent MillWorks used to go by the name of Sweeney Todds. If so, you’ll probably remember the brilliant, messy ice cream sundaes for which the restaurant was known. Happily, MillWorks has revived this tradition – introducing the mighty, comically huge Rupture Rapture.
