This is a great place to work from, but an even greater place to have a party or simply spend some time. Besides the organic food at the café on the ground floor, I liked their mix of “drop-in” classes, a formula that allowed me to try many different things, from hula-hoop to Bollywood dance. The restaurant is good as well, but the music is too loud to focus on a proper writing session; perhaps it is better to come here simply for a beer or a live music event.

Another column on the spreadsheet records in a few words our impression of each pub. These are great fun to write and sometimes a bit snarky (“nice beer, filthy glasses”) but their purpose is to help us recollect the pub months and hopefully even years after what might be one visit. We tested it last night (in pub #103) and it worked:

Biblos do a selection of great, healthy wraps for around £6, and if you’re looking for something a bit more substantial, Canteen manage to create a fantastic menu each day using local and sustainable ingredients for around £7-8. A few doors up, Cafe Kino will fill you up on a selection of sturdy vegan meals for well under a tenner.

Enjoy the full spa experience at The Lido in Clifton, where you can relax in hot tubs, dine on flavoursome food and swim in an outdoor pool dating back to the Victorian era. You've got plenty of options on nearby Whiteladies Road, from sushi platters at KIBOU to French classics at Aqua Brasserie, or a taste of Spain at Bravas.

We’ve highlighted The Canteen’s spectacular vegan-friendly dishes before. What we failed to mention was that this restaurant-cum-bar is probably just as well known in Stokes Croft for its music events. Six nights a week and always free (before 9.30 on Friday and Saturday), The Canteen hosts some of the best free music around.

We had been told that there was quite an atmosphere, aside from the fact that it has a certain name, the place is ideal for a beer and also for eating. Really depends on what music and vibe you're looking for, stokes croft is quirky and hipster- the bell, hillgrove, canteen, full moon, the social. Strange brew in the city centre is really fun, open till 2 . Great crowd and they don't full to capacity rn so room to dance.

Canteen boasts its own Banksy mural, a vast beer garden and live music and DJs every night. Oh, and the food’s pretty good too. Embracing a slow-food movement that’s “good, clean and fair” it serves delicious plant-based dishes such as broccoli jambalaya.

The Louisiana has multiple floors for the live music that is often performed by locals. St George’s is the place to go for classical music, and The Fleece is simply legendary having seen the likes of Amy Winehouse and Oasis on its stage.

Located underneath the well-known community arts and dance space- Hamilton House, The Canteen encapsulates the wayward spirit of Stokes Croft. With regular live music events and fantastic food, it's a wonderful drinking hole.
