Reviews Summary

Diners rave about Pasta Ripiena's exquisitely crafted stuffed pasta, highlighting innovative flavors and fresh ingredients. The cozy atmosphere and friendly, attentive service are consistently praised, making it a standout Italian spot. Some reviews mention dishes being rich in flavor, and while the menu is concise, it offers a high-quality culinary journey.

"Compliments to the Chef! From the first bite to the last, every dish was an exquisite journey of flavour and craftsmanship. It's clear that each plate was prepared with care, passion, and an extra touch of love. The rich, perfectly balanced flavours combined with stunning presentation made this meal unforgettable.

For me, this isn't just the best Italian restaurant in the area—it might very well be the finest in the entire UK. Every detail, from the texture of the pasta to the savoury sauces and fresh ingredients, reflected the mastery of Italian culinary art. Whether you're an avid foodie or simply someone who appreciates good food, this restaurant will transport your taste buds straight to Italy. Truly a gem worth revisiting. Bravo!"

"Very rich in flavours, maybe a bit too rich lol. Focaccia could be better if more fresh. Overall still quite nice. Thursday night walk in, luckily to get 1h table, suggest to book in advance"

"Really great spot. The food was really excellent - simple but delicious. I really like that the kitchen is open so you can see the chefs preparing your food. Lunch menu at £23 for two courses felt pretty reasonable given how delicious it was. Everything tasted incredibly fresh. Service was very fast, the atmosphere was very relaxed and quiet. Will definitely be coming back."

The 11 best restaurants in Bristol

Following the sad closure of Pasta Loco in Cotham, attention has now switched to the family’s Pasta Ripiena and Cotto (they also have Bianchis in Montpelier), which sit next to each other on St Stephen’s Street. The former, intimate and fun, serves superb stuffed pasta dishes, such as a ravioli of beetroot and ricotta from the open kitchen, while Cotto, which doubles as a wine bar and kitchen is more of a cantina with classic Italian dishes – beef shin lasagne and bucatini with Cornish crab and mussels. Ripiena means ‘stuffed pasta’ in Italian, and that’s precisely what’s on the concise menu at this St Stephen’s Street location from the team behind Bristol-based restaurant group Bianchis. The team at Pasta Ripena make fresh pasta every day and stuff it with a number of seasonal fillings, but the dishes are more involved than that, such as triangoli of Calabrian ‘nduja, wild boar ragu and prosciutto San Danielle or Cappellacci of prawn and mascarpone, Cornish shellfish, crab bisque and agretti. With great food, delicious wine and seamless service, there's nothing not to like about Pasta Ripiena.

Where to Find: The Best Pasta in Bristol

Otherwise known as Pasta Loco’s sister restaurant and the UK’s first ravioli restaurant, there’s not much else to add to Bristol’s Pasta Ripiena considering all the wonderful things we mentioned above. However, it’s important to note that their expertly crafter fresh pasta is all prepared in fresh parcels. Simplicity is key here, with the restaurant using organic and local Italian ingredients to bring a promise of flavour, heritage and authenticity to each bite.Try their Saffron and Potato Ravioli with Crab Bisqué and River Ex Mussels.

Bristol’s most delectable European restaurants

Bristol has big competition between its many Italian restaurants, but Pasta Ripiena is one that stands out from the crowd. With perfectly crafted stuffed pasta alongside wine pairings, this restaurant elevates hospitality into an art form that’s intimate, playful and dynamic. We suggest starting with a selection of antipasti from the starters section of the menu, which includes mussels in cider with shallots, garlic and cream, or chicken thigh with pesto alla siciliana and burnt lemon.

Pasta Ripiena is brought to you by the same team that runs Bristol-favourite Pasta Loco. Here, they’ve honed their passion for pasta by focusing specifically on authentic filled pasta ( pasta ripiena in Italian, hence the name). Though their menu is always consistently brilliant, highlights include a stunning fresh ravioli with smoked aubergine, parmesan and pine nuts, or for carnivores, tempting triangoli with Calabrian ‘nduja and wild boar ragú.

2021 Review: It’s not fancy (wood banquettes and orange school chairs), but this small new Redcliffe Italian turns out “wonderful” fresh stuffed pasta – a USP in this country – that’s full of “interesting seasonal flavours”. The owners, behind Pasta Loco, are fast building a local empire, having opened a deli/café, La Sorella, two doors down from the premises in May 2019, followed by trattoria Bianchi in the old Bell’s Diner (RIP).
