What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Diners consistently praise Aphrodite's Bar and The Oyster Club for its exceptional quality seafood, particularly the fresh and creamy oysters, and the visually stunning presentations. The creative cocktails and attentive service are also frequently highlighted as positives. However, some guests have experienced long waiting times for main courses and occasional service lapses, which can detract from the overall high-quality experience.
"We had booked dinner and arrived for pre dinner cocktails. We were early on a Saturday evening so it was a little quiet but it is a great place to relax and enjoy a pre dinner drink. We ordered oysters and then monkfish and skate followed by panna cotta and sticky toffee pudding. The food is great at a good price and we throughly enjoyed it. The service was polite, friendly and prompt. We had a great time so thanks to the team !"

"💎 Our recommendations:
* Beetroot Salad
* Whole Dover Sole (on the bone)
Here’s what we ordered:
🍽 Beef Tartare / Beetroot Salad
This classic dish was served with toast on the side. It was decent, but the Beetroot Salad stole the spotlight! The salad came with whipped yogurt and a sprinkle of breadcrumbs. The white beetroots, naturally sweeter, added an unexpected and delightful twist to the dish—absolutely delicious!
🍽 Whole Dover Sole (on the bone)
Our main course was visually stunning, served with loads of capers and brown shrimp. Despite the generous amount of brown butter, the capers perfectly balanced the flavours, so it didn’t feel too heavy.
🍽 Lamb Rump
I ordered the lamb rump cooked to medium, but unfortunately, it arrived fully cooked. 😔 Since I hate wasting food, I decided to enjoy it as it was rather than requesting a replacement."

"Wow wow wow. What an amazing gem right in the heart of Birmingham. Do not miss the smoked row, the hand dived scallops, and the English oysters. All absolutely divine. The cocktails are very interesting and unique too. Service was so friendly, and I felt like a regular. Would be back every week if I lived in Birmingham! Highly recommend this delicious place!"

The Oyster Club, Birmingham: ‘The biggest thing on the plate was the chunk of lemon’ – restaurant review | Food
The Oyster Club, on the other hand, which sits at the top of Temple Street, is altogether classier. It’s a posh seafood restaurant with a marble counter where you can eat Loch Ryan native oysters at £28 for six and omelette Arnold Bennett at £21.50. It’s a special-occasion place, with some lovely birthdays and anniversaries taking place on the night we went, but even they couldn’t drown out the noise from the “considerably richer than yous” sitting to both my right and left, and who were forensically detailing their properties, post-tax profits and jetsetting adventures at a volume so loud, it blew the sorrel off my rhubarb-dressed oysters.
Best Birmingham Restaurants - Reviews & Restaurant Guide
The “junior sister to Adam’s” on Bennetts Hill “is one of the rare places in Birmingham where the diner can enjoy fine fish dishes, though some of them are rather expensive” (albeit not quite as expensive as its acclaimed sibling). “Not surprisingly, the diner may start with a choice of oysters” but there’s a wide range of other “excellent” fishy dishes too (including caviar for the plush) and, while it “couldn’t be further from the sea, it makes up for it with the quality of the food” – also now available to sample in their newly refurbished ‘Aphrodite’s Bar’.
Best places to eat in Birmingham
Birmingham has an unusually high concentration of Michelin-starred restaurants (four, currently) and Folium – a chic, boxy room in the city-centre’s quiet Georgian Jewellery Quarter – is surely in the running to join that glittering firmament. Ben Tesh’s seasonally-driven, modernist dishes reconcile creative flair and bold flavours with rare maturity. For instance, oyster tartare sauce served with salt ‘n’ vinegar cod’s skin (a piscine take on the pork scratching, designed to look like an oyster shell), is as aesthetically striking as it is outrageously tasty.
Discover the best fine dining in Birmingham
A third can be found at modern British restaurant Carters of Moseley. Not only one of the best fine dining restaurants in Birmingham, this is one of the best in the country, the only other Birmingham restaurant to be named in the Sunday Times Top 100 restaurants in the UK and ranked 66 in the 2018 National Restaurant Awards. The most recent star was awarded to Opheem in Summer Row, the first Indian restaurant in the city to get the accolade and yet another triumph for Aston-born chef-owner Aktar Islam.

Grab a seat at one of the luxe leather barstools at the counter and order a platter of oysters – there’s normally six different varieties on ice, ready to be shucked, with the option of having them as nature intended or with a Japanese or rockerfeller dressing. Adam’s has become synonymous with quality, and for The Oyster Club, quality is unsurprisingly equally engrained in the ethos.
