Reviews Summary

The Elder offers an exceptional fine dining experience, praised for its delicious and beautifully presented food, particularly the venison and tasting menu. Diners consistently highlight the attentive and knowledgeable service, creating a memorable occasion. However, some reviews mention a disappointing shift in ambiance and a lack of flexibility with menu options, impacting the overall dining environment.

"absolutely delicious food - (the lobster, the venison broth and bread and the pumpkin desert were all standouts for me)and great wine pairings ( the dark heavy fruity red paired with the venison and all the light desert wines ) all
enhanced by fantastic service from Nick who knew about each course and the wines and made us feel very welcome.
id really recommend this place - and will definitely be back"

Clare Huggett

"We took my parents to the Elder for a very belated Christmas present and it was a fantastic evening in so many ways: some of the best food we’ve ever had combined with very attentive but relaxed service with a smile. We thoroughly enjoyed it from start to finish and felt very well looked after. Every course felt like a treat. We look forward to returning sometime soon."

Tash Webb-Peploe

"We had booked well in advance for the tasting menu only to be told on arrival that there was a new set menu in place. Some sort of contact would have been nice to let us know of this. However the new menu looked good , so we stayed. The food overall was very well presented and well cooked and enjoyable. We felt that the atmosphere in the small room was not very comfortable, the background music didn't suit the occasion and the waiter could have been a bit more efficient and smarter (baggy jeans! also ask how we would like our lamb cooked). For the type of restaurant that this aspires to be, we expected a little more. Would we recommend? Probably not."

Best Restaurants In Bath 2024

The Elder, located in Hotel Indigo Bath is the brainchild of Mike Robinson, one of Britain’s leading authorities on wild food and game and has become one of the best places in the city to dine. Seated in a series of elegant and atmospheric dining rooms, interiors have an early 20th-century vintage flair, with oil paintings depicting equestrian scenes, studded tan leather banquette seating, orb-shaped lamps, panelled walls and dark wooden furniture. Eating here isn’t purely about the food, it’s a journey of discovery, as you learn more about local heritage, or food preparation techniques.
