Swoon Gelato has recently been taking the South West by storm; with shops in both Bristol and Bath it's fast becoming THE place to visit. As well as their staple flavours, vegan offerings and plenty of things to choose from if you're gluten free, they mix things up every month by creating new flavours according to the winners of the polls on Facebook. The staff are always friendly and welcoming, and they always encourage you to try a few flavours before you make your choice, which is great if you're indecisive like me!

Ok, this one is not a restaurant per se, but I couldn’t cover independent places to eat in Bath and not mention Swoon. This renowned little business knows how to make proper artisan gelato and it has now become a classic in Bath. They churn it on site and use the finest ingredients they can get their hands on – from Somerset milk to pistachios from Bronte, Sicily.

Best of all, the treats kept coming, with my older son’s What’s Fudge Got To Do With It warm chocolate fudge cake with milk chocolate sauce and vanilla gelato (£6.75) presenting a real depth of flavour without being too sweet, while my strawberries and cream cheesecake (£7.25) delivered a point perfect combination of soft cheesecake and crispy base.
