After moving from Vietnam to England at a young age with her family, Noya Pawlyn has become one of the most loved foodies in Bath and has recently transformed her popular Vietnamese supper club into a restaurant. As well as serving informal but hearty sharing dinners in the evening, Noya’s Kitchen also opens for lunch, Tuesday to Saturday, offering a thali-style menu, presented as a tray os small dishes that diners eat clockwise, starting with an appetiser such as fresh summer rolls with punchy dipping sauce or a squidgy pork bun, followed by small portions of Noya’s favourite Vietnamese stews and broths, and finally a miniature dessert.

Whilst the independent, utterly charming Noya’s Kitchen serves up an excellent beef pho, pork-pronounced bun cha and other Vietnamese street food classics, we’re pleased to report that their vegetarian and vegan selections are also some of the best plant-based plates you’ll find in Bath. On a tight, thoughtfully curated menu that’s almost half composed of vegetarian dishes, you’ll find life-affirming summer rolls, bouncy with marinated tofu, pert with sliced green mango, and seen on their way with a punchy dipping sauce of soy sauce, and plenty of sliced garlic and fresh bird’s eye chilli. Having left Vietnam in a boat at the age of seven, Noya Pawlyn’s first cooking memories are of making rice for her four siblings in a Hong Kong refugee camp. Her Vietnamese café comes after four years of running pop-ups in the city, and the menus are deliciously straightforward; expect Vietnamese salads, fresh summer rolls and chicken pho, bagging a spot in the shady garden to transport yourself somewhere much more tropical.
