Reviews Summary

Colonna & Small's is celebrated for its exceptional specialty coffee, earning accolades as one of Europe's best coffee shops. Diners rave about the quality of the brews, the knowledgeable and friendly staff, and the pleasant minimalist atmosphere, including a charming courtyard. While primarily a coffee destination, some visitors also enjoy the delicious pastries and cakes offered.

"Colonna & Small's – what a beauty. I ordered myself an iced oat milk latte and it was just the thing for the summer heat. The plain croissant and the chocolate one were both buttery, fresh and absolutely delicious.

The vibe is minimalist and it’s definitely a must-visit. I only wish I had more time to sit and work from this lovely café, enjoying their excellent speciality coffee."

Nidhi Dubey

"Specialist coffee café (don't ask for tea!) They do a very good standard filter or expresso coffee selection or you can go for the more expensive 'hand picked by fairies' range of special beans. Seriously this is a good cafe for the coffee connoisseur. There is seating in a small garden at the back accessible by stairs. Just a single toilet in the basement."

P Ruffles

"Incredible coffee shop, glad I came across it. Had a great flat white, and their selection of coffee gear and beans is wonderful. They also have a lovely little back patio."

Many folks have coffee for tea, and if you are one of them, then the coffee shop in Bath to head for is Colonna and Small’s. One of the owners writes books about coffee; the company Colonna has its own roastery not far from Bath. Behind the bar a blackboard outlines the filter and espresso coffees on offer, with descriptions of the varying flavours.

There are a number of reasons why Bath has become a mecca for coffee worshipers, although Colonna & Small’s’ presence in the city is probably the one cementing its status. Its modest shop front doesn’t reveal much about the speciality sorcery going down inside the contemporary space. However, the stack of trophies belonging to co-owner, and triple UK Barista Champ, Maxwell Colonna-Dashwood, tell you all you need to know.

Discovering ALL The Cute Coffee Shops And More In Bath

Our first stop was Society Café and we headed first to the smaller one of the two in Bath on a corner very near the station and overlooking the stunning Bath Abbey. I don't know why but I was pleasantly surprised to see they had matcha lattes and with the option to have my favourite Oatly milk. I know we were only an hour and a half out of London but I genuinely thought Bath wouldn't be so hip and happening.
