Reviews Summary

Moonrise garners near-universal praise for its Michelin-star quality cuisine, creative dishes, and impeccable pacing, often described as the best meal many have ever had. Diners highlight the intimate counter setting and the chef's personal touch. However, one review found the food too greasy and unbalanced, with a limited main course and overly sweet desserts.

"Thank you to Chef + the entire Moonrise team.
Where to begin?
I have been lucky to dine at many of the top restaurants in the world; this one beats them all. By far. And here is why —

The setting is beautiful and intimate; the staff warm, professional and polished without feeling overdone.

The pacing of the meal is flawless and the counter configuration reminds me of the former Brooklyn Fare (NYC) but smaller and more well executed without the coldness.

Each dish is absolutely amazing in taste and presentation — a creative masterpiece of flavors which are interesting and perfectly balanced — what is so special is it all adds up to a meal like no other. And it’s also just plain fun to be there; you get the Michelin star quality food without the pretense while still witnessing culinary greatness which comes from the heart and soul of Chef S. who is there to speak to you about each course; what inspired him to dream it up. It’s a narrative of his journey overlaid in food. Special stuff.

Congratulations to the Moonrise team — can’t wait to see what the future holds for all of you! Thank you for such a great evening. Keep rockin’ 🌔🌙🇦🇪✨

Hope to see you in NYC one day! 🇺🇸"

"Amazing place. The food is miles better than other Michelin star places we’ve been to. MILES. I actually didn’t know food this good existed!
The service, atmosphere and overall vibe are also excellent.

This is THE place to go in Dubai for a great, unforgettable meal."

Jon Burrell

"Damn.. We’ve been to many Michelin star restaurants but you know what, I actually would confidently say that this is the best meal I personally have ever had. I normally never write reviews online, but this team of culinary geniuses, they deserve all the praise they can get.

Put simply, their 1 star is not deserved. They’re performing on a 2 star level aspiring for the 3rd star. Phenomenal and spot on evening. A whole other aspect is the atmosphere and service, which is just simply as sharp as a knife.

I always hate the idea of sitting 3 hours for a dinner because most of that time is wasted on waiting. Here, I swear to god, we had a dish coming every 10-15 minutes and it was just a storyline, like eating in a live story from a book.

This place is not only worth visiting, it’s worth revisiting."

Both the proud owner of Dubai’s latest Michelin star, Moonrise, and its young chef-owner, Solemann Haddad, are now familiar names in the city. At 27 years old, Haddad hit a home run with his first solo project—a boundary-pushing modern take on what he calls “Dubai cuisine.” Located on the rooftop of a residential building in Satwa, the newly licensed restaurant is a small, understated counter-dining space where guests enjoy a front-row seat to the kitchen. Regulars and first-timers all want an up-close perspective on Haddad’s cooking, which showcases largely Middle Eastern and Japanese seasonal ingredients.

Degustation menus vary depending on the best available produces with delights ranging from 36-month-aged and grilled Parmigiano-Reggiano with black pepper emulsion and Hokkaido milk bread, to labneh sorbet with local honey, olive oil foam and burnt walnuts.

Omakase-style restaurant Moonrise was founded by one of Dubai’s youngest and most interesting chefs: Solemann Haddad, a third culture kid passionate about what he calls “Dubai cuisine”. Here, only eight diners are accommodated at a time, and only what will be utilised is purchased. Moonrise is rooted in a minimal-waste policy, resulting in dishes that speak volumes of Haddad’s creativity – wilted shiso leaves are blended into the refreshing welcome beverage, while the ends of sourdough loaf are vacuum-sealed and stored, eventually turned into a homemade miso.

Moonrise opened in late 2021 and, rather than steadily increasing its reputation step by step, continues to grow in status, sprinting towards greatness like the clappers. For chef Solemann Haddad, a Gault&Millau Future Great winner in 2022, there appears to be no finish line; the young chef (still under 30) pushes boundaries and harnesses the best in local produce while storying his hometown through food. In fact, no other restaurant in Dubai places so much emphasis on the chef’s own storytelling.
