Lades Menemen is a beloved spot for its authentic Turkish breakfast, especially the signature menemen dishes and creamy bal kaymak. Many praise the fresh ingredients, quick service, and friendly atmosphere that makes it a local favorite. However, some diners find it to be overhyped and overpriced, with occasional complaints about blandness or potential food safety concerns.

"Worth trying their specialty Menemen!

Fast paced breakfast place with friendly personnel and with reasonable prices.

Tourists top spots for traditional Turkish breakfast.

Overall score 4.2/5 for a Breakfast Restaurant"

Ari Zingillioglu

"The best menemen! Served in a unfussy environment with very quick service, my food arrived piping hot with less than 5 minutes of ordering! And it was absolutely delicious, (menemen with fried meat and extra cheese). What I also like that they have chilli flakes which I was so happy to see because not all restaurants have that option but they do here and it elevates the tastiness so much. The service is friendly too."

Tanya Fernandez

"I have been thinking about this restaurant a lot after trying it. It was a late breakfast with my girlfriend on a hot sunny day, we were welcomed by the staff with some free fresh bread loaf. The kaymak cream & honey was the most delicious dip i had in 2025. The chicken soup was just perfect and reminded me of home and the days when I was still young and innocent. My gf ordered the tomato omelette and fould never shut up about it for the rest of the day. Overall good experience."

Best Turkish Breakfast in Istanbul (+Vegan Options & Sea Views)

Also known as “Lades Menemen” (‘menemen’ being a type of a very popular Turkish breakfast dish made mainly with eggs & tomatoes), Lades is an old breakfast spot that is famous in the Taksim area of Beyoğlu district. As is the case with almost all “famous” places, it might let you down a little bit (I’ve had much better menemens in a lot of different places) but if you are around, you should try it too, maybe just to be able to say that you have tried it when someone eventually recommends it to you… But I’d say go here only if you are on a short trip (like 1 day in Istanbul or max 2) and don’t have a chance to get to other neighborhoods famous for traditional breakfast. And, you may love it as well, as the idea of a perfect menemen depends from person to person.

6 Istanbul Restaurants Feeding Locals for more than 30 Years

In existence since 1969, locals stop by this little cafe before work, squeezing lemon juice into hot bowls of tavuk suyuna çorba (chicken soup) and tearing apart crusty bread with their hands. The shop is known for menemen, creamy, fluffy scrambled eggs mixed through with diced capsicum and onion, sucuk (Turkish sausage), pastrami, chicken or a little of everything. It comes with pul biber (Aleppo pepper) for sprinkling, and if you really want to mimic the locals, order çay (tea) instead of coffee.

Istanbul's Best Workers' Lunch Spots

**If Lades, which means “wishbone” in Turkish, provided an actual wishbone alongside the usual post-meal wet wipe and toothpick, we’d close our eyes and make a wish that we could eat their tandır (oven-roasted baby lamb) seven days a week. These large knots of tender, fragrant meat lined with a soft cushion of fat are the sort of high-calorie lunch that we might save for a special occasion but Lades regulars take for granted.

If you look up Turkish breakfast spots – whether online or from travel books – you’d see plenty of mentions that Lades is the place for Turkish menemen. Unfortunately, I’m going to burst the bubble and say no – at least from my personal experience there. It’s not bad, but it’s not fabulous either and I wouldn’t go as far as calling it a must-visit legendary restaurant.
