What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Şehzade Cağ Kebap is highly praised for its incredibly tender and flavorful horizontal Cag Kebab, with many calling it the best they've ever had. The restaurant offers a simple menu focused on its specialty, often accompanied by fresh salads and yogurt. While some find the prices a bit high for Turkey, the quality of the meat and the authentic local experience are widely considered worth it. Service is noted as efficient, though sometimes less friendly, and the venue can be cramped, especially during peak times.
"Speedy service and great food. A bit pricey but I thoroughly enjoyed the chow. Small menu so we opted for the wrap and the soup. Both were tasty but hands down to the wrap which in it's simplicity is so good. The meat speaks for itself and the char and smokiness comes through nicely. Loved it!"

"Their Cag Kebab is truly amazing. The simplicity of the menu with only 2 main dishes and a handful sides ( Mixed salad, yoghurt, lentil soup… ) provides a more authentic experience of this restaurant that has been up and running for years.
You can taste the flavor and its unique and delicious!
The portion of 2 cag kebabs as seen in the picture didn’t quite match a normal portion size. We got the order twice and were not disappointed — just by the pricing per serving."

"If you are in Istanbul you gotta try this! Absolutely delicious the meat just melts in your mouth. Stunning taste and it's light in the stomach. This place was one of my favourite ones eating here in Istanbul. It's a vibe sitting and eating here you'll understand once you did😉
Almost 0 waiting time for your food to be served. Lovely and friendly staff..."

On the same street you can also try Sehzade Cag Kebab which serves meat cut from a sort of horizontal doner, not that it makes any difference whether a doner is cooked vertically or horizontally but this is cooked by a wood fire and not an infrared grilling machine or gas or whatever the other doner places use. Et Is Lokanta Klasik is also a popular kebab place with both Turks and tourists as is Ozbolu Kebab House at Hocapasa 33. Both serve grilled meats as well as point-and-choose oven cooked dishes.
What & Where to Eat in Istanbul: 29 Best Places!
Sehzade Cag Kebap calls itself a steakhouse, but in reality, it’s just an ordinary eatery with only two kinds of kebabs and two kinds of salads on the menu. From outside it looks unremarkable and does not make much of an impression (actually it’s right by the bazaar, so looks chaotic) but the food, simple and cheap, is heavenly. It reminded me of one type of kebab that I tried on my one-day layover in Doha.

The Ultimate Food Guide To Istanbul
Şehzade Cağ Kebap is a true Turkish hole in the wall which is known for the hard to find specialty of cag kebabi. It’s lamb on a horizontal spit instead of a vertical one, and it reminded me a little of the Mexican dish pastor. Though, I dare say, it was even better than pastor.
