Traditional Dutch food at The Pantry! I tried the combo with hutspot, boerenkoolstamppot and zuurkoolstamppot (mashed potatoes mixed with veggies) that came with meatballs and sausage. Also got bitterballen and pea soup 😋 #thepantry #dutchfood #amsterdamfoodspot

Reviews Summary

Diners overwhelmingly praise The Pantry for its authentic Dutch cuisine, generous portions, and cozy, welcoming atmosphere. The friendly staff and good value for money are frequently highlighted as major positives. While the food is generally well-loved, a few reviewers found certain dishes, like the fish, to be bland, and the limited seating means reservations are highly recommended to avoid lengthy waits.

"This tiny restaurant is perfect for when you want to taste the true Dutch cuisine.

If you’re looking to experience authentic Dutch cuisine in a warm, intimate setting, The Pantry is a must-visit. This tiny gem delivers hearty traditional dishes that live up to the hype.

We tried the sausage, which was cooked to perfection—juicy, flavorful, and paired beautifully with classic Dutch sides that were equally satisfying.

Be aware: seating is limited, and we had to wait for nearly an hour since we didn’t have a reservation. That said, the wait was worth it. Once seated, the service was decent and the food arrived quite quickly.

A charming stop for a no-frills, authentic meal—just plan ahead if you’re on a tight schedule"

"The Pantry – A classic Dutch restaurant that you should definitely try when in Amsterdam. This place offers a wide variety of dishes, making it perfect for those unfamiliar with Dutch cuisine to sample many different options. The menu is easy to navigate because it’s organized into set meals that include a starter, main course, and dessert – all in one complete package.

This month, they’re not accepting walk-ins. We were lucky to get a table despite not having planned in advance, as we arrived around 5 PM and only had to wait about 5 minutes to be seated. The service was excellent, very impressive. Prices are friendly. It’s a small restaurant, but it’s comfortable and beautifully decorated in a classic style."

"Service was friendly. Make sure you make reservations because walk in queue will have an hour wait. We ordered the set meal and happy that they have variety of sets.
Generally, we enjoyed the meal. But the fish did not do for me. I find it too bland. The fish was cooked perfectly though. Desserts was good."

With its oil paintings, Delftware and frilly lamps, this restaurant can feel like stepping into a Dutch grandma’s dining room – and a world away from the neon lights of the entertainment district outside. The food is unfussy and substantial, with a focus on traditional Dutch cuisine: starters of salted herring with onions and pickles (€7.95) or smoked eel on toast (€10.95) and follow these up with a stamppot or hutspot (sausage, stew or meatballs with mashed potato mixed with vegetables) for around €14. A three-course set menu gives you a taste of three Dutch classics for €21.50.

The most Popular Restaurants In Netherlands

Fries have a rich history in the Netherlands, dating back possibly to the early 17th century. These traditional, thick, and crispy Dutch fries are served in a cone (sometimes with a tiny fork) and topped with a wide variety of mayonnaise-based sauces. After some research, I had to make my way here, nestled in the heart of Amsterdam since 1957.

I was afraid it might be a tourist trap, but made a reservation based on recs from this forum & was not disappointed. It was definitely mostly tourists there, but the food was awesome (I can still taste the oven dish-so good) and the service was friendly. Very reasonably priced too.
