Arguably the first Antipodean brunch spot in Amsterdam, serving its signature blend of internationally inspired brunch fare, Little Collins is still one of the best. Owner Georgina and her team started in a small, cosy venue in De Pijp, and expanded to a second, larger venue in Amsterdam-West in January 2019. The menus are a little different at the two locations, but you can expect things like their “kimchi pocket”, a pastry pocket oozing with cheese and kimchi, topped with chilli-ginger-glazed bacon; or their “guasacaca” – an avocado-based salsa served with halloumi, black beans and coriander.

One of Amsterdam's brunch pioneers, this intimate Australian-run eatery has a laid-back vibe and friendly servers. Although you'll inevitably have to wait for a table on weekends (it's walk-in only), the eclectic menu, which includes sweet and savory options, is worth it. Pass the time with one of the tasty brunch cocktails or house-made soda, iced tea, or drinking vinegar.

Little Collins, run by Aussies Charlotte and Georgina, is one of the friendliest places in town. The decor is bright and cheerful, the service always accommodating with a smile and the menu full of comfort food choices that will make sure you have a great day. Little Collins is located in De Pijp, but just away from the typical hustle and bustle, and invites you to lower your pace, start the day with one of their inventive cocktails, pour over the menu to decide whether to start with the standard “big one”, a healthy roasted vegetable salad, or a lesser known kedgeree, and eventually be lured into one of their excellent desserts.

Little Collins was the first to bring Antipodean brunch culture to Amsterdam, and a few other copycats have sprung up since – but none are as good as the original!. On a leafy block a stone’s throw from Sarphatipark, this understated De Pijp breakfast spot is definitely one for the coffee purists; thanks to its Swedish owners’ unfaltering commitment to the perfect cup. Whatever your preferred morning fuel, the Breakfast Club (five locations city-wide) has you covered; from cereal to fish tacos to pancakes and pies, their killer all-day menu offers mind-boggling variety.

Make sure to get to either of Little Collins’ locations in De Pijp or Oud-West early on a weekend, as the queue here often winds around the block – for good reason. You’ll find speciality coffee and intriguing flavour combinations on their brunch menu, such as kimchi and gruyere scrambled eggs or roasted peach French toast. Come back in the evening for a tasty supper menu, where you can sample Mediterranean-inspired sharing plates such as Padron peppers and labneh, or fresh burrata and tomatoes.

For some alfresco brunching in the summer, head to Little Collins, a local favourite with two locations; one in Oud-West and a branch in De Pijp. Little Collins is an Aussie-run cafe inspired by Melbourne’s food and drinking culture, so if you’re up for a bit of a boozy brunch, Little Collins you covered. I have Little Collins in this list not because their terrace is anything super special, but because their food is AMAZING. Their terrace in the De Pijp location is actually only available for walk-ins only / reservations on the spot, which can be a hige benefit if you haven’t had the opportunity to make any reservations yet. I first discovered Little Collins’ excellent line in international brunch dishes, from kedgeree to waffles, at their cosy location in de Pijp, but I later discovered they also do dinner. Little Collins is a Melbourne style restaurant with such great food and great vibes that it belongs with no doubt to the list of the best places for brunch in Amsterdam!. I came eating here countless of times, and I was always delighted!. What you will find on the menu: they have a concept of tapas that you can share, a good option as you will want to try everything!

Little Collins opened about 5 years ago and is since then successfully managed by Georgina. She’s a very nice and friendly Australian, happy to talk to you about coffee and food or to explain to you the different sorts of Bloody Mary they have. The interior here is rather minimalistic with a big wooden table in the middle of the place and some single tables around.

Since moving abroad, I decided to go back to the world of hospitality alongside my freelance writing gig. I have to admit, I had reservations about returning to the world of “on your feet all day” after so long. But lucky for me, I joined the team at Little Collins in January.

One of Amsterdam’s most popular brunch spots started as an intimate De Pijp bistro named after Melbourne’s upscale Little Collins Street. In 2019, a second, larger venue opened in the Oud-West. Both locations offer brunch from 9am, as well as dinner on selected evenings.

If you arrive before noon, you may get a good spot in or outside, because they don’t take reservations. Their lunch menu is changing from time to time, which makes it a good place to come back to. It’s also one, if not the number one lunch spot in The Pijp in Amsterdam.

Little Collins – We had a fantastic brunch at this Aussie-run cafe. My breakfast kimchi fried rice was full of probiotic goodness, and topped with oily, nutritious smoked mackerel. You can also get a hot water with lemon, mint and ginger to wash it all down.
