My favourite, though, was Khao Soi Khun Yai, a small cart-and-tables set-up on a patch of waste-ground beside Wat Kuan Kama.

Khao Soi Kun Yai or the grandmother’s khao soi is also situated in between two historical Buddhist temples — Wat Chiang Man (วัดเชียงมั่น) and Wat Lok Moli (วัดโลกโมฬี). It’s very conveniently located, but if you still have a hard time finding it, you can just ask a tuk-tuk driver to take you there. The restaurant is like a shed without walls, protecting you from the hot sun, and the place is breezy enough to not overwhelm you with the strong aroma of different Thai dishes being cooked on the spot.

When you pass by Khao Soi Khun Yai, at first glance it doesn’t look like a restaurant because all you see from the road is an opened gate and house in the back. But the front of the house is outfitted as an open air restaurant with long rows of tables and chairs and a open kitchen in the front. The restaurant opens at 10 am and closes at 2 pm, but it’s best to get earlier.
