Reviews Summary

Appia is lauded for its authentic Roman-style Italian cuisine and cozy atmosphere, with many highlighting the exceptional chicken liver pâté and pasta dishes. However, some diners have noted slow service and inconsistencies in food temperature, leading to less than ideal experiences.

"This place has been around for so long and it’s still popular so it means something in the city that the restaurant changes all the time and have expiration date. The food is straightforward and honest the decoration is very casual but nice. The zucchini salad and liver pate is great. They always have seasonal salad, which is good. Amatriciana is a must. The steaks good too"

"To the restaurant, we were there May 19 dinner time. Pls consider do hot allow strong smell food such as DURIAN into the dining hall. This is so unacceptable.
Instead of cucumber plate, better try baby kale salad. So delicious. The pate is so yummy. We wanted to reorder."

"This place is a must-visit if you’re after quality Italian food in Sukhumvit.

I’ve tried a fair few Italian spots across Thailand, and this one easily stands out. The food was exceptional and the service was some of the best I’ve had.

We originally dropped in just to try the chicken liver pâté, which a friend recommended. It ended up being the best I’ve ever had. Rich, smooth, and perfectly balanced. One bite turned into a full meal.

I ordered the lamb ragù and it was incredible. Deep, comforting flavors and cooked to perfection.

We sat at the bar and loved watching the kitchen team work right in front of us. You can really see the care that goes into each dish.

Already planning to come back for the dry-aged steak.

A hidden gem in Sukhumvit. Highly recommended."

Bangkok’s 10 Best Italian Restaurants

: A 10-plus year veteran of the ultra-competitive dining scene in Middle Sukhumvit, Soi 31’s Appia is Bangkok’s flagship Roman restaurant, bringing the delights of one decadent, traffic-choked, yet immensely compelling capital city to another. Why we love it: Chef-owner Paolo Vitaletti grew up as a butcher’s son right next to the Appian Way, the legendary ancient Roman road that reached from Rome to the Italian bootheel, and his commitment is to the fine traditions of the Roman trattoria. These are the sorts of simple, rustic, meaty recipes that countless visitors to the Eternal City fall in love with, from a fat-bomb guanciale pastas and porchetta to delightfully tender veal tongue to trippa alla romana that will make you ever wonder why you were afraid to eat tripe.

The 13 best Italian restaurants in Bangkok

After nearly a decade of top-notch casual fare, Italian restaurant Appia switched things up a few years back with changes to both the venue and the food and a move toward the finer side of the spectrum. The setting is as welcoming as ever, retaining its charming trattoria feel with linen tablecloths, warm lighting, and a wall newly decked out with photos and artwork, while upstairs the mezzanine has been transformed into a beautiful wine room filled with over 120 labels. Here, ingredients are king and allowed to shine, exemplified by something as seemingly simple as the salad of roasted organic red beets.
