Reviews Summary

The Sunset Bar offers a stunning sunset view, a major draw for visitors. While some rave about delicious dishes like fresh lobster and biriyani, and praise the warm hospitality, others find the experience overpriced and point to issues with food availability and raw or incorrectly prepared dishes. Service can be inconsistent, with some reviews highlighting attentive staff and others noting a lack of care and long wait times.

"Enjoyable dining experience, combined with the pleasure of watching the sunset. Warmly welcomed by Mwanaharus supported by Zabron and the Team, it was a fun evening. We recommend."

Janice Lawson

"Massively overpriced. My dish arrived 15 minutes before the dish of my partner. His fish was basically raw. We sent it back. No apology made when we brought up the topic.
Nice view though.
Food itself was ok, not great. The local dish tasted alright but quite bland so I assume it wasn’t really made the local way. Cocktail was below average.

edit: they apologised once we paid"

Sarah

"The original British Colonial Club, this restaurant is a perfect sunset spot.

All cocktails are $5. We stayed for dinner and had delicious food. The Lobster was fresh and perfectly cooked.
Beef biriyani was yummy.

Our waitress was so lovely. Friendly and helpful. The perfect hostess.

Prices are a bit higher than most places but you get what you pay for."

The Africa House Hotel is one of the more expensive places for a drink, but the price tag is worth it to watch the sun setting behind traditional dhows bobbing in the shallows. After drinks, walk along the coastal road and grab some street food from the night market at Forodhani Gardens; queuing locals will guide you to the best dishes. Bed down for the night at the exquisite Emerson Spice Hotel, a lovingly restored old merchant’s house.
