What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Shin Yeh Taiwanese Cuisine offers a beloved, authentic taste of Taiwan with many dishes praised for their bold flavors and quality execution. Diners particularly rave about the pork liver and traditional porridge. However, some find the dishes a bit too sweet for their palate, and a few have noted inconsistencies in preparation for certain items like the three-spice chicken.
"The food here is gorgeous. The flavours are so bold and balanced especially the pork lover an absolute must have. Their fried rice and deep fried oysters were really well done, crispy and smells so alluring. The sanbeiji however was a disappointment... The flavour was too overpowering and the chicken was really dry. If you want sanbeiji go elsewhere don't waste your time here. The desserts were all so heavenly velvety soft and the sweetness impeccably controlled. Would strongly recommend people to give this place a try, just not the sanbeiji!"

"Traditional Taiwanese cuisine recommended by a Taiwanese friend. Overall I found their dishes has sugar as one of the dominant flavour which I’m not quite used to. The stir fried liver is interesting and quite tasty. The young octopus does not clean too well and there are part of clear spine and intestine should be cleaned and removed. The 3-spice chicken is disappointing - cooked too long and the chicken is not tender. The radish omelette is the most successful dish. Taiwanese sausage is sugar dominant. I guess if someone like sweetness in savoury dishes they would enjoy the dishes more."

"Delicious AF. A Taiwan staple. Some dishes are simple looking but so high quality. Steamed minced pork with salted egg yolk and the other vegetable dish I forget the name of. Also love the porridge with yam (or is that sweet potato?).
Make a reservation! Came for lunch at 11 am. Lucky they were able to barely accommodate me."

Taipei Nightlife • A Complete Guide [2025 June Update]
While Shin Yeh has locations all throughout Taipei, this one has the best view in town, from the 85th floor of Taipei 101 – the tallest building on the island (and the tallest building in the world until 2010). It is a grand space with crystal chandeliers and white tablecloths, yet the food is approachable. Think squid, deep-fried oysters, lots of lobster, and heaps of abalone.
Best Taiwanese Restaurants In Taipei For Traditional Food
Shin Yeh is a great place for an introduction to Taiwanese cuisine, full of local ambiance and tastes. Don’t miss the three-spice chicken, fried oysters accompanied by dipping salt, rice noodles with pumpkin, or braised pig trotters with peanuts. Instead of typical white rice, Shin Yeh is best known for the yam rice porridge, which incorporates one of the main foods in Taiwan.
Restaurants and Dining Out in Taipei, Taiwan
Shin Yeh restaurant has several branches in Taipei, including one inside Taipei 101 (which we couldn’t get a reservation for). The resto got a rec in this New York Times article from March 2008, and we ended up at a Shin Yeh location not far from Taipei 101, close to the Taipei City Hall metro station, inside yet another luxury goods shopping mall.
