Reviews Summary
MUME is lauded for its innovative Asian-fusion cuisine, blending Nordic techniques with local Taiwanese ingredients into visually stunning and flavorful dishes. Reviewers often praise the tasting menu for its creativity and the restaurant's chic, industrial ambiance. However, some diners find certain dishes not memorable enough for the price, and service can occasionally be inconsistent, leading to a mixed experience for some.
"We had a business dinner at MUME. I have to say I was so surprised by the different dishes and flavors, you can clearly tell the homage to the various cuisines and food cultures throughout the menu (duck- French, pasta- Italian, fish- Scandinavian, ceviche- Peruvian etc etc) this was a real celebration of global gastronomy and it took us on a journey around the world and back to Taiwan - loved every dish. Presentation is amazing, flavors are bold yet balanced. Thank you for taking us on this amazing journey. If you’re in Taiwan- this is A MUST visit."

"The three questions I asked myself after the meal was...
- Was the meal memorable?
- Will I recommend this restaurant to others?
- Will I be back?
Unfortunately, the answer to all 3 questions is 'No'.
The best part of the meal was the presentation. Each dish was beautifully prepared and the servers did an excellent job describing each dish. The problem was the taste. None of the dishes were bad but not a single one stood out. At the end of the meal, our server asked us which was our favorite dish and I struggled for an answer. I eventually said the abalone because I was surprised by the bitter melon it was paired with.
For our meal, I chose the wine pairing and my date chose the cocktail pairing. The drinks were good and went well with the meal.
Service for the most part was excellent. The only hiccup was that they forgot my second piece of bread. The server asked if we wanted another piece of bread and I said yes, my date said no. Our last two dishes came out and still no bread. When our server brought out our dessert, that's when we told her they forgot my bread. We were the last table for the evening so halfway through our meal, we can hear the kitchen staff starting to clean the kitchen. I guess they were too busy cleaning to prepare a piece of bread.
The meal took a little over 2 hours and at the end of the meal, I wasn't hungry but I couldn't say I was full. After drinking a bottle of wine at a nearby bar, my date and I ended up getting beef noodle soup.
Prior to my meal, I read a lot of great reviews for MUME. Unfortunately, the meal was a real letdown. Maybe my expectations going in were too high. For the price, there are plenty of other restaurants in Taipei I will prefer to eat at."

"This tasting menu really knocked it out of the park for me - the type of tasting menu that for almost every dish, you want to try to take smaller bites because you don’t want to finish the goodness.
Mume was previously a michelin star, and I was a little hesitant when I walked in - very minimalistic decor and ambience, but everything changed when I took my first bite.
They had a drawing for every dish including the amuse bouche, with labels for each dish element, which I thought was very thoughtful.
The amuse bouche was a beef tartare buckwheat cracker - the cracker was deliciously thin and crispy and the cure egg yolk brought all the elements together.
Yilan local red prawns with jicama and powdered frozen ricotta - we were shocked at the sweetness of the prawns and the fresh dill flavor, the crunchiness of the jicama and prawn head oil made every bite a compex umami bomb.
Local salad with fermented black bean sauce - very fresh local lovely greens and the bean sauce was very unique
Kinmedai with basil oil and a broth made with no water, just sake and fish bones - omg this broth was so flavorful I had to finish every drop.
Local penghu squid in abalone sauce and trout roe - squid cooked tender in a rich sauce and the trout roe lended bursts of brininess to the whole dish to cut through the richness.
Butter poached lobster in bisque and basil oil - the lobster was cooked incredibly well, so succulent and soft and the sauce was incredible, rich and bright.
Ox tongue in sorrel and green apples - this ox tongue was so tender I thought it was beef steak at the first bite, and wow, hands down the best beef tongue I have ever tasted.
Both desserts were delicious, with the yogurt mousse so airy and light, and the chocolate orange with smoked ice cream so decadent.
The wine pairings were really exquisite wines from spain - a beautiful complex grenache blanc and a dry clean albarino were my favorites.
This is a restaurant I want to come back over and over again."
