"Love love love this place! The ambiance of this restaurant is lovely. Castle feel, surrounded by stone as you’re taken into an underground experience. Charming and romantic .. the food was superb. The staff was very friendly and offered great service. The drinks were yummy too!
I highly recommend this restaurant for an evening out. Be sure to enjoy your time here and don’t rush it. It’s truly one-of-a-kind!"

"One of the most popular restaurants in Punta Arenas where people are waiting in the lobby for a spot. For good reason too! The atmosphere is great, it's a bustling and semi chaotic restaurant that gives off a really warm vibe. Full of locals and tourists alike so that's a good sign.
The food was great! I had a lamb shank which was cooked perfectly. Combined with the gnocchi it was a hefty dish but very lovely. My friend ordered the skirt steak with fries and it was cooked great with a good salty taste to it.
The staff is amazingly quick, professional and lovely. We had a great time and our waiter definitely added to that experience.
The facilities are very clean and have a great look that fits the interior design. The whole experience was lovely and I definitely recommend you visiting this place! I'd give it a 4.6⭐"

"The Taberna is one of the best rated restaurants in Punta Arenas and rightfully so. It is located just next to the Plaza Armas in the Sara Braun building. The building itself is worth a visit. The Taberna is underneath the building and it is beautifully decorated. We had a bottle of wine which was really tasty along with the grilled camambert, the salmon and the lamb shank. For the dessert we shared a tiramisu. The tiramisu was a bit sweet for our taste but still very tasy. The food was absolutely delicious and the staff was very friendly."

A Backpacker's Guide to Punta Arenas, Chile
Following the death of Sara Braun in the mid-20th century, her palace was sold to the union club where, in 1960, they established a subterranean clubhouse named La Taberna. Although this atmospheric basement drinking spot was once reserved for the city’s most powerful men, it is now open to everyone and has become one of Punta Arenas’ most iconic bars thanks to its cozy nooks and old-world appeal. The city itself can be explored on foot, the Plaza de Armas is a good place to start with the Club de la Union and mansions with turrets, beautiful roofs, glassed-in sunrooms and well kept gardens with huge araucaria trees (monkey puzzle trees). The Plaza itself is full of huge, old trees and in the centre is the Monumento a Hernando de Magallanes. Note that the toes of one of the bronze Indians is polished and shiny.

Nowhere better to do that than at Taberna Club de la Union, a cozy and hugely popular cellar bar on the ground floor of the Sara Braun mansion.
