This fun, alfresco beiz (canteen) located in an upmarket lakefront campground is a sweet summer alternative to the city’s sunset terraces, which can be crowded and overpriced. True to its name, Fischer’s Fritz is located directly on Zurich’s stunning lake; some of the fish for their dishes is even sourced directly from there. Fischer’s Fritz is a simple, charming open-air location right on the lake of Zurich with a holiday feel. Their BEIZ restaurant was described by the Tagesanzeiger as a mixture between a French bistro and a Sylt beach bar, and this little gem on the shores of Lake Zurich really does give you the feeling of being abroad, even though it’s only a short drive from the city. They cater for weddings between 65-100 people in one of their open tents, and from midnight onwards you can party until the early hours of the morning in their restaurant.

The campsite is called Fischers Fritz and they happen to have casual restaurant right on the water with a relaxing lake view that makes you sort of feel like you’re at a beach house. The food is a healthy mix of seafood and local favorites like veal schnitzel. Personally, I was impressed when instead of bringing us a bread basket, we were presented with a bucket of veggies to nosh on while we waited for our lunch.Taste: Fischer Fritz house wine.

Fischer’s Fritz restaurant is part of the campsite of the same name – the only Camping in the City of Zurich (although it’s rather close to Kilchberg). This grassing lawn leads right up to the lake, and there’s a diverse amount of seating to choose from. Enjoy the lake view with a glass of wine from their options in the Zurich Region.

Because I was there in the summer, we were drinking a lot of local rose and white wines and were particularly happy with the wine selection at Fischers Fritz and its sister restaurant, Milchbar (which has great coffee and Gin and Tonics, by the way).

Directly on the lake, the Fischers Fritz with its long tables and white parasols is almost the Côte d'Azur!. As the name suggests, all kinds of fish specialties are served by Adrian Gerny, the only professional fisherman on Lake Zurich.
