Reviews Summary

Grotto del Cavicc is celebrated for its high-quality meat dishes, excellent wine pairings, and the tranquil, historic ambiance of its forest setting. Diners appreciate the professional and friendly service, as well as the authentic Ticino cuisine. However, some find the prices to be on the higher side for the region, and the interior decor is noted as being dated by a few.

Thank you so much, grazie mille!"

"Came here in my childhood 25 years ago and happy to be back again. Love the tranquility of the place, the authenticity of the food and the caring and charming service of the host family!!"

5 typical "grotto" restaurants not to miss in Ticino

This is the place where writer Herman Hesse used to go everyday, writing about how much he loved living in Ticino. Grotto del Cavicc has kept most of its ancient charm, plus it has a nice terrace. It is a bit on the pricey side, but this is the place where I learned that in Ticino you are supposed to drink your wine in the traditional striped cups.

Grotto del Cavicc (at Via ai Canvetti 19a in Montagnola) is my favorite and is a must for anyone who wants to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city (and for the foodies). Hermann Hesse—a famous Swiss writer—spent a lot of time eating, drinking, writing, and socializing there.

We definitely recommend the Grotto Cavicc in Montagnola: the place is really appealing, furnished with wooden tables and small string lights framing everything. Definitely have a meat dish, like spare ribs, for instance: this is not a tip, it’s an order!
