One of the architectural focal points of the Old Town waterfront, this floridly decorated guild house provides an authentic medieval setting in which to sample reasonably priced local fare (the guild's origins can be traced to 1341). Lake fish or pastetli (meat pies with puff pastry) are worthy local options. The interior is woody and publike; in summer the small first-floor balcony or the airy cobblestone riverside arcade provides one of the best seats in town.

The premises of Zunfthausrestaurant Pfistern date back to the 16th century, when it was built as a guild hall for the city’s bakers and millers. A beautiful fresco on the facade, depicting a tree bearing many coats of arms, makes the building one of the Old Town’s crown jewels. The typical, seasonal Swiss cuisine also comes with the fantastic view of the famous Kapellebrucke.

I like the Pfistern Restaurant located beside the old rathaus alongside the river. After dinner you can do the scenic walk along the river; crossing over the Chapel Bridge. The restaurant food is good with a good variety of choices.

At the end of the day, we actually wanted to have dinner (I was craving for the Swiss cheese dish Fondue) at Pfistern, one of my favourite Swiss restaurant around Lucerne – unfortunately, the outside terrace, where they usually serve more than 100 different fondues, was not open at the time we arrived… we checked the internet and we decided to go to the Fondue House Du Pont instead, which was open earlier. And the best thing: it was literally just around the corner (1min from the Pfistern restaurant). As fate would have it, we got a nice table with an amazing view to the Chapel Bridge!.

Pfistern, is located next to the Rathaus with a view of the Reuss and the Jesuitkirche, booking a reservation here to sit along the promenade, while you eat cheese fondue for dinner, topped off with a chocolate fondue for dessert while sipping on an excellent paired wine, you will have had the best Lucerne experience ever!. I quite thoroughly enjoyed my glass of Zunftwein Weiss, a local wine from Lucerne!

Pfistern (Lucerne) – we were craving cheese fondue (again) so asked our hotel for a recommendation. We sat outside on the balcony and enjoyed cheese fondue before also ordering a chocolate cake. The food and service were great, but I do think this restaurant is a bit more touristy than others - we started talking with our neighboring tables who were all American and all went to the restaurant because it was a recommendation from their hotel.

Les locaux du Zunfthausrestaurant Pfistern remontent au 16ème siècle, quand il fut construit comme une salle de guilde pour les boulangers et les meuniers de la ville. Une belle fresque sur la façade, représentant un arbre portant de nombreux blasons, fait du bâtiment l'un des joyaux de la couronne de la vieille ville. La cuisine suisse typique de saison offre également une vue fantastique sur le célèbre Kapellebrucke.

The Zunfthause is a lovely restaurant along the River Reuss and no doubt, it's the best place to enjoy traditional Swiss food with a beautiful view. The Restaurant has outdoor seating along the river, a beautiful and cozy indoor ambiance on the 1st floor, and an outdoor terrace. The weather was perfect, and we were lucky to get a place on the terrace to enjoy lunch with a view.

No trip to Switzerland is complete without an authentic fondue dinner. The cooking style originated in this region and they do it by far better than anywhere else I have eaten it. I visited the iconic Hof Church, walked along the famous Chapel Bridge, wandered around Old Town — full of beautiful Swiss architecture — had a delicious lunch at Pfistern overlooking the river, took a boat tour, had wine at another cafe across the river, then headed back to Zurich.

We had lunch one day at Pfistern and again got the amazing waterfront experience!. It also had unobstructed views of the beautiful Jesuit Church!. The salad was amazing…
