A coffee shop with an elaborate food menu, Pedlar’s has a cosy vibe with retro posters, courtyard dining and a Vespa sidecar by the counter. Outside, a vintage black Ambassador marks the entrance, and there are a few tables in the veranda. It can feel a bit cramped, especially on hot afternoons.

The medium-rare steak was a little tough on the edges but just tender and juicy in the middle, better than many beef dishes in Lanka that tasted like beef jerky; the pizza was a bit disappointing, it was small but you could tell as soon as you tasted the crust that this was not a pizza shop that was just filling up the numbers; the coffee tasted very average, probably because of the beans; the store has some unique designs that emphasize individuality, which adds a sense of romance to the meal.

Serving deliciousness since the British-era, Pedlars Inn mirrors the spectacular ambiance of those times, thanks to the antique wagon at the entrance and the clean-cut decor heightened with mustard walls. Everything on the menu is delicious and one cannot miss the small gelato shop right across the road from the cafe with its vintage colourful cart and group of travellers having the time of their life!

Pedlar’s Inn Cafe is a beautiful and modern dining venue featuring an eye-catching terra-cotta exterior and Irish-pub-style interior with quality wooden furnishing, muted lights and comfy seating. Pedlar’s Inn serves a wide selection of Western favourites including pasta, sandwiches, steaks and fresh salads, along with some amazing desserts.

I particularly liked sitting out the front, admittedly on a smallish table, and eating/spending time there as people walked past. But inside there were a number of rooms and it turned out to be a really interesting building too. I’d been travelling for three plus weeks at this point and this was my first steak of the entire trip.

Pedlar’s Inn Café has an assortment of dishes and tasty eats but the highlight of this little gem is the Pedlar’s Inn Gelato across the street from the Café. Their sorbets are golden and refreshing on a warm tropical day. Get a couple cups of ice cream and go watch the waves crash against the show, a perfect way to end the day.

For something Sri Lankan, Asian, Italian, or seafood, you may drop by the Peddlar’s Inn Café. If you’re craving for something sweet, order their chocolate brownies topped with ice cream or their homemade Italian gelato. The former British Post Office was renovated from the guesthouse and then into a café with a few tables.

Just inland from there, on Leyn Baan Street, you find the interesting Historical Mansion Museum that is worth visiting, followed by another pitstop at Pedler’s Inn Cafe for tea. Walk along the grass embankment on the seafront ramparts, parallel to Rampart Street, great for views over the fort.

Ever find that if you’ve been traveling in a certain country for too long and all you want are some familiar favorites?. For me, it’s always strong coffee. I adore Sri Lanka, but man, oh man, this country loves its tea (another area where the whole British influence comes through).

Pedlar’s Inn is a Galle Fort staple, the ultimate place for tourists and visitors. It’s a little bit expensive, but it’s got plenty of seating and a lovely courtyard. We love their understated decor and al fresco dining, although their food can be a bit uninspired sometimes.

Another great lunch spot is the popular Pedlar’s Cafe situated on the historic Pedlar Street. You cannot miss this place and the famous Morris Minor standing right outside. The cafe occupies the whole ground floor of the former British Post Office in the heart of Galle Fort.

The famed Pedlar’s Inn serves everything from local to pizzas. We pass by several quaint looking restaurants, only to settle for the less adventurous, but still immensely satisfying, freshly made steamed baos and juicy dumplings with Iced Americano at the Dumplings Café.

Sit outside next to the vintage antique car and watch the tuck tucks and tourists go by. Across the street sits their ice cream shop with a vast range of flavours to choose from. We recommend wandering the picturesque streets of Galle Fort with an ice cream in hand.

To get a taste of Galle’s famously fresh fish, visit Pedlar’s Inn for lunch or dinner. Their signature seafood dishes are divine, but this isn’t all they have on offer!. Their diverse and varied menu is packed with Western favourites, from pizza to pasta.

With the arrival of more and more boutique hotels in Galle, so too has the restaurant scene exploded. Expect to find lots of good places to eat and drink within the fortified walls. We became quick fans of Pedlar’s Inn.
