Named after a much-feared and respected breed of fighting bull, this rustic tavern, located behind La Seo, is dripping with taurine paraphernalia. It offers an elaborate and inventive selection of pinchos and tapas. Jamón ibérico de bellota (acorn-fed Iberian ham), Spain's culinary crown jewel, is a no-brainer, though quail eggs or the classic gilda—olives, green peppers, and anchovies on a toothpick—are also on the bar and hard to resist.

Conocido por ser uno de los mejores restaurantes de Zaragoza, este bar-restaurante es también uno de los más baratos de la ciudad, perfecto para hacer una parada rápida mientras visitas algunos de los puntos más importantes de Zaragoza. Especializados en pinchos, de las que tienen una gran variedad, son muy recomendables cualquiera de sus variedades de croquetas entre las que destacan las de cocido, las de pimiento rojo relleno de carne, las de boletus y las de solomillo al cabrales. El precio de los pinchos es de más o menos 5 euros algo que lo convierte en uno de los restaurantes de Zaragoza más baratos.

Great value for an AC property, even if a bit older and quite away from the city centre (30 mins by bus).

Back to El Tubo to start at Bodegas Almau (Calle Estebanes 10), which has been serving punchy Aragonese reds since 1870, or Los Victorinos (Calle Jose de la Hera 6), where a montadito (open sandwich) of jamon, foie and boletus costs £2.40. Everything stays open late, so if you want to catch a concert at the highbrow Auditorio de Zaragoza (tickets from £12; auditoriozaragoza.com) or the down-and-dirty Casa del Loco (from £8; Calle Mayor 10), rock on.

En el corazón del Casco Histórico de Zaragoza, con el bullicio de la plaza de Santa Marta de fondo y el trasiego de Don Jaime I, se descubre un silencioso callejón. Es la calle de José de la Hera, tan estrecha que apenas caben dos personas caminando en paralelo. A pesar de su corta longitud y su angostura, puede alardear de tener una taberna que, en 2006, fue nombrada la mejor de España por los lectores de la ‘Guía Gourmetour’.

Los Victorinos is one of the most traditional tapas restaurants on this list. It is almost entirely standing-room only. You stand either directly at the bar or along the edges of the restaurant where a bar top runs the entire perimeter.
