Reviews Summary

Mercado del Barranco is celebrated for its vibrant atmosphere and the ability to sample diverse, high-quality dishes from multiple stalls. Diners praise the creative cuisine and the lively ambiance, particularly with its indoor and outdoor seating options. While generally a hit, some confusion exists regarding seating arrangements, and one review noted a perceived loss of its original market soul.

"We found this place and it became one of our favourites on our trip to Seville. Overall the food and drinks were a good cost for great quality. One thing we did find confusing was if you could sit inside in the 'fancy' middle seating if you went and got your own food, or if it was waiter service only. People didn't tend to know you had to be seated in this area, and it would be helpful if there was some signage. Outside had some lovely seating areas as well with music that makes it a great environment to relax. Overall a 10/10 even with the seating confusion.

Some of the things we had were: Bravos Potato's, Tomato Salad, Empanadas, Salami Pizza Spice, Cheese Selection, Coconut and Mango Dessert Slice, Pistachio Cheesecake."

Charlotte Scarrow

"What an amazing spot in Seville! The best part is that you can grab food from different stalls, each with its own flavor, and then sit down to share and enjoy a glass of wine or a cold beer with friends. The vibe is relaxed yet lively, and the location is just perfect for a great time. Highly recommended!"

Carolina Salazar

"Klaudia the waitress super professional and friend and made our day! She explained the wine for my wife and the food came together! Super amazing and highly recommend. Thankyou"

Craig Housley

The 5 Best Markets In Seville, Spain

There are few better places to take the pulse of Sevillano life than the Mercado Lonja del Barranco, a stylish food market on the lush banks of the Guadalquivir. Seville has a reputation in Spain for being pijo, (posh) and its locals are referred to (sometimes with amused affection, sometimes with disparagement) as pijos – a stereotype which a couple of hours at this sophisticated cluster of food stalls and bars won’t disprove. The food is inventive, modern and varied and can be enjoyed in one of several light and spacious seating areas within the market’s glass walls.

mercado lonja del barranco – is a venue that opened recently and has yet proven to be a successful formula appealing to many foodies from sevilla. this market is housed in an old building that served as a fish market 40 years ago, now it looks more like an open loft space with loads of glass and light coming from outside. the market features many stands that all offer goodies that come from the surrounding region, meaning a stand that sells acorn-fed ham, one specialized in salmorejo or one that focuses on the creation of the perfect spanish omelette.

Seville’s Food Markets: A Living Tradition of Taste and Community - Sevilla private guide

Mercado del Barranco is quite different from the other markets listed — not a traditional neighborhood market, but a modern gourmet space in a historical setting. Housed in a beautiful 19th-century cast-iron building designed by Gustave Eiffel’s firm, it served as a wholesale fish market for over a century before being closed and later reimagined. In 2014, it reopened as a gastronomic market, offering small food stands, shared seating areas, and river views — part food court, part wine bar, part cultural venue.

Some colleagues of mine had recommended the Mercado Lonja del Barranco, a lively food hall that’s open until 2 am, boasting both local and international cuisine. Housed in a 19th Century glass-and-wrought-iron pavilion, it boasts everything from sushi, to tapas, bao buns, salads, wraps, croqueta, empanadas, fresh shellfish and more. After freshening up at the hotel, we made our way out for dinner and enjoyed a few glasses of Rioja with some tasty paella – the perfect end to our first full day.

The Spanish have long enjoyed dining out on small dishes from many vendors, so having a food court in Seville brings the global tapas trend full circle. Since 2014, the 1880s riverside glass-and-iron former fish market hall has played host to about 20 food and drink stalls. This is the place to mix and match, judgment-free: why not have Spanish seafood rice with an Aperol spritz, or a glass of rioja with some sushi?
