One of Seville’s most popular eating spots, Eslava on Plaza San Lorenzo has a tapas space with long bar and tables at the back, and a more formal restaurant next door. It’s usually packed, so squeeze your way in and nab a spot at the bar, or sit outside at a tall table with stools. You’ll want to taste award-winning, finger-licking honey pork ribs, and boletus mushroom cake topped with a poached egg and caramelized wine reduction; the more adventurous might try "Becquer’s cigar”, a filo roll filled with squid in its ink, seaweed and bechamel. Venture north to Extremadura for rich red wines from high-tech Habla winery.

The crowds gathered outside this local favorite off the Alameda de Hercules may be off-putting at first, but the creative inexpensive tapas (from €5) are well worth the wait—and so is the house specialty, the Basque dessert sokoa. Try delicacies like the cigarro para Bécquer (cuttlefish in a filo pastry cigar) and yema sobre bizcocho de boletus (egg atop a mushroom sponge). Tables at the tapas bar can't be booked (a call will get you a reservation at the next-door Eslava restaurant); to help avoid a wait, visit between 12:30 and 1:30 pm or between 5 and 8 pm.

The Eslava was one of the first of the new breed of Sevillano tapas bars to serve contemporary cuisine. Still a big local favourite, it’s always a squeeze to get into the simple, blue-painted bar, but well worth it for the creative tapas.

The tapas bar at Eslava (not the pricier, higher end restaurant attached to it) is my number one food recommendation in all of Seville. When my brother Nick visited me, we stood outside of this tiny bar, drinking ice-cold cervezas, eating delicious tapas from a tall table, basking in the sun -- needless to say, I had one of the best experiences I had while abroad. The most obvious indication that this place would be good was that it is always full of locals drinking and eating inside and outside, and I would know, because it is conveniently located about fifty steps from where I was living.

Another Seville classic, this hugely popular tapas bar is tucked away in the untouristy San Lorenzo district, home to one of the city’s most important Semana Santa (Holy Week) processions. The long, narrow interior features an always-busy bar, which is the best place to soak up the lively atmosphere, although you can also get a table at the back. Dishes to try include pork ribs with honey sauce, croquettes and deep-fried sea anenomes, plus award-winners: cheese emulsion on tomato bread with anchovies and olives, and slow-cooked egg on boletus and truffle cake.

Expect to see diners lingering beyond 11 pm in places like Eslava, a bar and restaurant just west of the plaza, where the inventive menu is spearheaded by leg of lamb cooked with honey, raisins and pine nuts. At the Alameda’s north end, the trendy two-year-old Duo Tapas (Calle Calatrava 10; 955-23-85-72) has cafe-style seating and a youthful clientele, and its adventurous modern tapas, such as pollo al curry (chicken curry) have an international flavour .

The wine selection is strong on Andalucian wines, but offers tipples from all over Spain.

Eslava is one of the more well-known tapas bars in Seville (as can be seen from the multiple Michelin Guide stickers on the window of the bar!), and I highly recommend coming here for a meal. We didn’t have to wait for a seat when we went (we arrived at 12pm sharp!) but shortly after we were seated, a line started forming out-the-door. By 1pm, the place was completely packed, and standing-room only!

Eslava sits a bit off the general tourist path, tucked behind one of the city’s most beloved churches, the Basílica de Jesús de Gran Poder. The folks at Eslava have won numerous awards for their elevated tapas, which deviate from the traditional Seville tapas bar classics. Best get there early or make a reservation to get a spot at Eslava, but it’s well worth the wait.

It might be tucked out of sight on a little cobbled side street, but that doesn’t stop people flocking to Espacio Eslava for their exceptional tapas. You can dine indoors, or take a high table out on the street and feast on classic dishes with a modern twist. If you really want to rub shoulders with the Sevillans, Casa Ricardo Antiguo is a proper, traditional Taberna.

This is my absolute favourite, best of the best, which I’ve recommended to everyone!!!. Eslava has a young and contemporary ambiance with rather modern take on tapas. Some of their signature plates have won multiple prizes, crowned by visitors, and can be found nowhere else in the city.

And it would be about a mile walk to our dinner destination; a very popular restaurant named Eslava in the Alameda neighborhood. Eslava, like La Azotea is always mentioned in those "best of" lists you find. We arrived just after the place opened and it was already getting busy.

This was our second of four stops on our northern tapas crawl. Espacio Eslava seemed to have the most modern and refined versions of classic tapas. Very creative and well recognized, they have several tapas that have won first prize at Seville’s annual tapas contest.

It’s pretty tiny, with a long bar and a few tables, and it gets packed. I would say they serve more elevated tapas — but still with a casual, hip vibe. We ordered grilled navajas (razor shell) with lemon and pork ribs roasted on rosemary honey for dinner.

Eslava restaurant is a great combination of traditional taste of Spain and innovations. This is the place where you can try award winning tapas. It might be slightly more expensive than most tapas bars in Seville, but it is totally worth it.
