Without a shadow of a doubt, croquetas are on the menu in every bar and kitchen across the country, making them one of Spain’s most popular tapas dishes. These deep-fried savoury fritters are made using a creamy bechamel sauce which is then infused with ham (although chicken, spinach and oxtail are also common fillings), and then coated in breadcrumbs. These moreish, fried bites are usually accompanied with bread and crisps.

Casa Ricardo feels and looks like a traditional Andalusian restaurant, and it’s no surprise considering it has been around since 1915!. On top of being widely recognized for its history and the authentic interiors of the bar, the restaurant in the San Lorenzo neighborhood wins over the locals’ and tourists’ hearts with their impressive tapas selection that includes both traditional and innovative tapas. Some would say it’s possibly the best in town!

A table had been booked at Casa Ricardo 🇪🇸 one of the few remaining historic venues on the Seville circuit we had yet to visit. On arrival it transpired that was an outdoor table set quite detached from the pub itself, to the point of basically only being on the street side. That was not the plan at all, so a couple of us had a crack at securing a corner in this very, very busy popular bar.

Not only have many locals said that this bar/restaurant has the best croquetas in Seville, but even the world!. This place is a must-try and serves a delicious traditional Andalucian tapa, flamenquín (a fried pork roll). The walls are covered with photos and objects significant to the celebration of “Semana Santa” in true Andalusian style.

For a snack, Casa Ricardo (where they serve the best croquettes in the city), El Mercado de Feria and Eslava. It is a fantastic place to have a few drinks outdoors since almost all the places have terraces in the square and if, in addition you want to listen to live music, you can go to Naima Café Jazz, Fun Club and Malandar.

We love Casa Ricardo, a little spot hidden in the back streets near the Alameda. This place opened in 1898 and, although it went through some refurbishments over the years, still retains an old-school atmosphere. Its walls are lined with religious images, mixing bar culture and religion in a way that only Seville knows how.

Casa Ricardo is another historic tapas bar you can visit in Seville. Open since 1898, it isn’t quite as ancient as El Rinconcillo but it’s still over a hundred years old and just as popular. We read that Casa Ricardo is famous for their croquetas de jamon and jamon iberico.

Meanwhile, Bodeguita Romero serves traditional Andalusian fare made with heaps of love; Bar Donald pulls in people from far and wide for its outstanding ensaladilla rusa; and Casa Ovidio has probably the best croquettes in the whole world.

Casa Ricardo – For croquettes and sirloin with whiskey sauce. What’s themed as an “Easter” bar, Casa Ricardo is almost always packed to the brim. Locals and tourists alike come for the incredibly tasty tapas and vibrant atmosphere.

These simple balls of fried goodness may be small, but they pack a delicious punch. Spanish croquettes are simple spheres of bechamel sauce stuffed with… whatever!. You can get pretty much anything inside a croqueta.

Casa Ricardo is another old tapas bar that started serving in 1915. It’s a place for those who want to explore Spanish cuisine or just to get amazing tapas. The bar is quite small with not much sitting area.
