Named after the stone columns outside its yellow facade, this kiosk-sized bar is just up the road from the cathedral, on one of Santa Cruz’s prettiest cobbled streets. Speedy staff serve Sevillano classics such as solomillo al whisky (pork loin cooked in garlic and whisky) and boquerones fritos (deep-fried anchovies) in a standing-only room adorned with mahogany, hanging hams and daintily tiled walls, or on tables under the columns outside. The house tipples demand your attention in turn: vermouth, sangria and orange wine, the taste of Spain.

Bodega Santa Cruz, affectionately renamed Las Columnas because of the pillars outside, is less than 200 metres from Seville Cathedral. This lively tapas joint typically heaves with Sevillanos drinking cañas (small glasses) of locally brewed Cruzcampo beer. Non-locals are welcome but it’s not for the faint-hearted – the mischievous bartenders seem to revel in teasing non-Spanish speakers.

Two of Seville’s most characteristic traditional tapas bars, Taberna Alvaro Peregil and Bodega Santa Cruz, are on the doorstep (as well as plenty of tourist traps on Calle Mateos Gago to be avoided). Taxis can take you right to the front door, as this area is not pedestrianised.

Located by the Cathedral, Bodega Santa Cruz (known locally as Las Columnas) bucks the tourist-trap trend of its neighboring restaurants and continues to sell traditional tapas at reasonable prices. This bar screams tradition – they even still take note of your bill on the bar in chalk, and for an authentic sevillano experience while you take a break from exploring the center of the city, it can’t be missed!. Make sure you try their pringá montadito, a small sandwich with a pulled-pork style filling – so delicious!

Honestly this place was packed when I stopped by and I had to take a standing spot at the bar in a high traffic area so I rushed through a glass of wine and a couple of small sandwiches for lunch, but I regret not stopping back by because the food I tried was quite good. It’s dead center to the tourist avenue opposite the cathedral on the palace side, so it’s consistently crowded, but the old-world bar and the good food make the effort worth it. And it’s a classic little spot in a sea of tourist joints.

Referred to by locals as “Las Columnas”, Bodega Santa Cruz is another popular tapas place in Seville, on the corner of Calle Rodrigo Caro and Calle Mateos Gago. It’s a traditional bar that serves a wide range of montaditos (small sandwiches), simple tapas, and fried meat and seafood dishes. You’ll have lots of sandwiches to choose from at Las Columnas but their house specialty is the montadito de pringá – an uber tasty sanwdich made with mashed chorizo, blood sausage, and pork.

Bodega Santra Cruz was our second favourite venue for tapas. Situated only a short distance from the Seville Cathedral and entrance to the Alcazar it was heaving by the time we arrived at around 8.30pm. With no way of keeping track of who is waiting for a table you have to be on your game and pounce when you see a group getting ready to leave – we learnt the hard way that there are no friends in the table game!

When we finished in the early afternoon, we went to Bodega Santa Cruz (C. Rodrigo Caro, 1) which is definitely more of a locals’ spot and has sort of a well-loved bar feel. The tapas menu was really all the same again, but there was more beer here than we had seen before. It’s standing-room only and there are people pouring out onto the street to eat at tall tables and around them, too.

One of my favorite spots was Bodega Santa Cruz Las Columnas, an authentic spot frequented by locals, where the bartenders keep track of your order on the counter with chalk. The medieval Jewish quarter, Barrio de Santa Cruz, is a lovely, whitewashed tangle of alleys. On some streets, bars alternate with antique and souvenir shops but most of the quarter is quiet and residential.

I'd heard great things about the tapas and nightlife at Bodega Santa Cruz, but they were literally out the door every night. Instead we popped in for breakfast on our final day, snapping up a table in the corner next to a friendly American (who told us how he'd been to Scotland once but only the airports, you know those well known Scottish airports Heathrow and Gatwick... Ahem).

As the night wears on, the frantically busy bar staff wipe what they’ve run out of off the menus, which are chalked up at each end of the bar. Sees plenty of tourists but still very authentic.

Bodega Santa Cruz Las Columnas Sevilla, to give the place its full title, is a fantastic local-style tapas bar that is incredibly popular with the inhabitants of Seville. Offering traditional Andalucían fare, this place is a truly local bar among the tourist hotspots and offers the best tapas in Sevilla. The bar can get very crowded but is well worth it.

Bodega Santa Cruz Las Columnas (locally known as Las Columnas) is known as a spot to eat cheaply and eat well. Located in the Barrio Santa Cruz, or the Jewish Quarter, this traditional tapas spot offers plates for under 3 euros apiece, making it easy to fill up without spending a lot. I can’t list the best tapas in Seville without mentioning Bodega Santa Cruz. Located in the heart of Seville just steps from the cathedral, this tapas hot spot is entertainment at its finest. The owners and servers always wear a smile as they pile your plates high with croquettes, fried anchovies, and Spanish cheese.

Imagine a bar – no, not just any bar, but one rehabilitated from the timeworn charm of an erstwhile grocery shop from the ’50s. Welcome to Bodega Santa Cruz, “Las Columnas” – a place of tradition and thirst. Flamenco sketches line the walls, with barrels stacked high, and patrons, as varied as the tapas menu.

The previous night after dinner at the terrible La Tradicional, we saw that Bodega Santa Cruz had a lot of people having drinks and tapas. We decided to go back the next afternoon for a quick lunch. It wasn’t as packed during this time, and we were able to find a seat, contrary to how many say you must stand.

We do not leave the neighborhood of Santa Cruz to take a walk through one of the most charming places in Seville. It is the Bodega Santa Cruz on Mateos Gago street, better known as Las Columnas because of the two big columns at the entrance. A plus are the views of the Giralda, a few meters from the bar.

It is hard to say if Bodega Santa Cruz is favoured most by locals, foreign students or tourists, but one thing is for sure: its popularity is indisputable. If there is no place to sit inside, then have a look outside for a table to stand at. Here you can expect proper old-school tapas.

Officially called Bodega Santa Cruz, but known to locals as "Las Colomnas" after the two Roman pillars that support the front of the bar, this is the place I often take visitors if I want to show them a no-nonsense tapas bar. It's right in the midst of the tourist district.

Out of all the places to eat in Seville, you have to go for breakfast at Bodega Santa Cruz. Get the bread with jamon and tomato, and a cafe con leche and you’ll have a good start to the day. It doesn’t look like much from the outside but trust me, the breakfast is good.

We only saw a menu in Spanish written on the wall, so feel free to point and gesture based on what others are eating or look up phrases using my menu above. With options to stand at the counter and drink outside, Bodega Santa Cruz is both a local and tourist favorite.

You need to fight your way to the bar, make yourself heard and watch them chalk up your tab on the bar, which I guess can be a bit intimidating if you are not confident with your Spanish, but the bar staff really work with you so trust me you’ll be fine.

This place is really cute with great food, but good luck getting a table. It is located in Santa Cruz, one of the most tourist populated barrios in Seville, so it’s always crowded. If you happen to snag an empty table then you’re very lucky.

Bodega Las Columnas (C/ de Rodrigo Caro, 1) is another cheap option with plenty of charm, just out of the shadow of the Giralda. With beer at 1,10€ and tapas as low as 2,20€, you can still fill up without a huge bill.

One of the historic bars in Seville and definitely a no-frills bar. The staff writes your order and bill on the bartop with chalk. There’s no menu, but rather a large chalkboard with a selection.

A local-favorite bar that serves up delicious, authentic tapas at solid prices. It’s always busy with locals and in-the-know tourists so you might have to fight for a spot (but it’s worth it).

If you seeking somewhere with vibrant atmosphere, "Bodega Santa Cruz Las Columnas" on Rodrigo Caro 1 is a must-visit, serving local favourites like salmorejo and grilled sardines.

They serve a nice tortilla (similar to a frittata) but you’re really here for the lively atmosphere. Bartenders playfully yell at eachother while orders come out fast and furious.

A proper old rough-and-tumble Spanish boozer, Bodega Santa Cruz is one of those places that’s always packed out with rowdy students, professional bon vivants and local carousers.

A quintessential Sevillian experience, this bustling bodega offers a wide range of tapas at unbeatable prices. The montadito de pringá (small pork stew sandwich) is a must-try.
