"Amazing resturant! The interior design and decorations are stunning. The atmosphere is calm and peaceful. The food is delicious, beautifully presented, and creative. And the service is excellent; the servers and the kitchen were very accommodating and incredibly thoughtful. If you visit Santiago de Compostela, you should 100% dine at this restaurant!"

"Everyone was friendly and welcoming. The chef was accommodating to requests for vegetarian friendly menu for someone in our party. Presentation was on point, beautiful, and artistic. Lucia even came out to present/talk about a couple of the dishes. Very fun experience. My favorite foods were the appetizers and pink dessert."

Historic Center of Santiago - GALICIA
We then walk up the alleyway of A Tafona, which leads to the street of Virxe da Cerca, close to the Porta do Camiño, where pilgrims enter the city from the French Way, which continues within the old town along the street of Casas Reais or ‘Royal Houses’, which received this name after Juana the Mad and Felipe the Handsome spent a night there in 1512. Other interesting features in this street are the neoclassic church of As Ánimas and the eighteenth-century Fondevila mansion, which today contains the offices of the Social Foundation of Caja Madrid. We then enter Cervantes Square, with the neoclassic church of San Benito and two Baroque mansions, one of which once contained the Town Hall.

What: Easily the most complex, artistic, and visually-creative tapa I tried, this “apple pie” consisted of Tonka bean streusel, creamy toffee, a crunchy web of frozen Rooibos tea (!), a miniature candy apple, and a sail of crispy, filo pastry. I’m exhausted just thinking about it—but it tasted so very good. The service at this upscale restaurant, however, was the worst I’ve had in Spain, and that’s saying something.

Also very close to Santiago’s food market, located in a 1920 building, A Tafona Casa de Xantar is another exquisite restaurant drawing inspiration from traditional Galician gastronomy. The talented chefs at A Tafona give classic Galician fare a modern twist: the best fresh daily produce from the local market is prepared in a delicate and often colourful style. Have you ever heard of a beetroot cappuccino?
