What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Bodega La Conveniente offers a unique, historic dining experience with a charming ambiance, often enhanced by live piano music. Patrons praise the generous sharing platters of traditional Spanish fare like cured meats and cheeses, alongside professional and fast service. However, some find the food to be overly greasy or too expensive for what is offered, noting it's a place that caters more to local tastes.
"Great vibe beside the church. ⛪️ the place could get packed later in the evening so go early.
Caracoles + Salmon ahumado + Frasca = 39€"

"What a little find 😍
It's an old little restaurant.
Can have a drink in the "offacina" office
Or sit at the sharing bench tables with your friends or friend and enjoy sharing plates of food together.
Food is good but not excellent.
Surrounded by 10000 bottles of wine.
And for an extra little surprise there is a raised piano which a pianist started playing all the old favourites.
Good friendly service.
Keep it up 😉"

"Good quality, reasonably priced local food and wine in a traditional bodega. Worth a visit if you're in the area."

This is what the Santander food scene is all about: straightforward but delicious bites washed down with a fine Spanish wine amid contagiously frenzied chatter. Tucked away just above bubbly Plaza de Cañadío, La Conveniente is one of Santander's favourite eating spots, a towering old-school bodega lined with heavy wooden pillars and hundreds of wine bottles, and usually totally packed. Huge tablas (platters) of excellent sausages, pâtés, meats, cheeses and peppers make up the refreshingly simple menu and are perfect for sharing.
Ten Things To Do In Santander, Spain
Kicking off with a gastronomic delight is important for one good reason – good food is less a passion and more of a religion in these parts. You can soak up the sensory experience of Santander in a million different ways, but none are better than tasting the local cuisine. At this joint, wooden pillars and high stone walls set the scene for an amazing tasting session, where the region’s hams, sausages, pates and cheeses are the order of the day.

One thing grabs the attention the moment you enter Bodega La Conveniente (C. Gómez Oreña, 9): its vast assemblage of wines on the upper levels of the airy space. That’s because this bodega, practically a Santander institution, started life as a wine storage cellar at the turn of the 20th century. In 1981, the doors were opened to the public, serving plates of cheeses, croquetas and anchoas (anchovies).
