What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Sidreria Beharri offers a mixed but often positive dining experience, with many praising the quality of the food, particularly the steak and pintxos, and the unique cider house atmosphere. However, some reviewers have noted inconsistent service and found the cider itself not to their taste. Despite occasional service hiccups, the value for money and delicious offerings make it a recommended stop for many.
"It’s a solid Taverna. Service was a little odd - but very very friendly staff. I was on the fence getting the big steak (Txuleta) because of price vs can they deliver? And I feel they did. We were stuffed.
The cider was a little disappointing- but it’s probably just not our type of cider.
I’d go back."

"This place was seriously disappointing. We did book so got seated straight away. Staff were not overly friendly at all. Sat us at our table and left us there for about a good 20 minutes. No explanation on what to do with the cider barrels/house. We eventually figured it out on our own. To then be told we were doing it wrong. The girl that was in the cider house was not helpful at all. Still no explanation on what to do or what we were getting.
As for the food, the fish was okay but the rest of it was also disappointing."

"Great lunchtime stop to enjoy very tasty pintxos and croquetas with some local Basque wine. Popular with locals and tourists alike. Good value too."

Sidreria Beharri will always hold a special place in my heart, not only because it was the first cider house I visited but also because it was where I experienced my first “Txot”!. I don’t think I’ll ever forget the moment I heard “Txot” and realized the cider barrel was about to be opened. The excitement and rush to join the line and wait for my turn to place my glass under the barrel will forever be etched in my memory.

The best places to eat and drink in San Sebastián
So one of the things I was most looking forward to in Basque Country was trying their famous traditional sidra. It’s dry and flat – not something I’m usually into with English cider. But here it’s sold in smaller quantities and usually free-poured straight from a hole in a barrel which adds to the experience.
