What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Bar Sport is celebrated for its exceptional pintxos, particularly the foie gras and sea urchin cream, set in a vibrant, traditional Basque bar atmosphere. While the popularity means it can get very crowded and ordering can be a challenge, most diners find the quality and taste of the food well worth the experience. Service is generally friendly, and the lively ambiance adds to the overall appeal.
"Limited space but amazing food
Food to order: sea urchin cream, stuffed squid, sangria, croquettes
If you like seafood, you have to try the sea urchin. The stuffed squid was also amazing. The sauce is to die for. Also tried the burger and the meat was very fresh. Fries were also really nice. 4 pintxos with 2 drinks to share between us and costed around €23. Lovely service. Will recommend!"

"The hype is real! This place has some of the best pintxos in town! My favorites thus far are the anchovies on picked chili peppers, the foir gras, and sea urchin soup.
Beer or Sangria are good pairings to any of the small bites they offer. As always, it’s first come first served so make sure to grab a good spot before it gets too full! Excellent and fresh seafood options available. Highly recommended."

"We discovered this place on YouTube and we could say this was probably the most crowded place among any other similar places. On our first try, we skipped and left because it was impossible to order anything due to the crowd.
On another day around 5 PM, it was much easier to order something with some patience and 10minutes waiting time. We enjoyed the food but found nothing really special about this place, I think you can find similar or maybe even better food, around the area, so don’t limit yourself to this place or don’t consider this bar as a “must to come and eat” in San Sebastián, explore other places.
If you have reading this far then let me tell you that I have been joking to deviate you from here to another bar so that we could enjoy some less crowd at this place to be honest this place has very tasty ones and the bread is the best, the meat is great and calamari was so tasty!! Visit this place but be mindful of people trying to order also so make some space for everyone 🤞"

Where to Get Pintxos at San Sebastian's Best at Bars and Restaurants
You’ll be sorely disappointed if you arrive at Bar Sport and mistake it for an American-style sports bar with 27 flashing televisions and flaccid, heat-lamp baked mozzarella sticks on the menu. No, you won’t find much sport happening at Bar Sport, a small bar on the oft-raucous Fermin Calbeton Street in the old part of town—unless eating flavor-popping pintxos is your sport of choice. The bar counter is crammed with small plates of morcilla (blood sausages), anchovies, and shrimp, all toothpicked through a baguette slice.
The Best Pintxos In The Basque Country, Spain
Vegetarians can sit this round out, as foie is most definitely one of the meatier pintxos around. A whole goose liver soaked in brandy, flash-fried and then placed on the obligatory slice of bread, perfect for mopping up the overspill of brandy juices. Bar Sport, a traditional hang out right next to Bar Txepetxa, is a local favourite with foie afficionados thanks to the high quality of the soft, yielding livers, as well as the fact you can take a seat to eat, an unusual luxury in the city’s bars.

They are famous for their sea urchin tapas, which were delicious😋 Also, the Galician-style octopus, which is famous in northern Spain, was very tender and delicious🐙 The restaurant is compact and crowded, so it was hard to order lol. Cheap eats in San Sebastian
If you excitedly head to Borda Berri on a Monday, keen to get stuck in, then realise lots of pinxtos bars are shut on Mondays (ahem) you might find yourself wandering next door to Bar Sport. Luckily, it’s also a gem – hover around until there’s space at the bar for you to lean on, and tuck in. Oddly, the ox cheek, which every other bar seems to specialise in, is a bit of a dud here (meaning you actually have to chew it), but the also-ubiquitous ham croquettes are delicious.
The Best Pintxos in San Sebastián
A classic, no-fuss experience — the establishment and its Gilda. Stand at the bar and choose your own adventure — start with the standard Gilda (served on a slice of bread) then maybe some tortilla, uni cream served in the shell, and a small slab of foie gras. Some pintxos bars only open in the evening, or close for siesta during the afternoon, but Bar Sport is open seven days a week from late breakfast until midnight, so you can start the snacking party whenever you wish.

Bar Sport (Fermin Calbeton, 10) – in general, the food at Bar Sport may not be quite as good as some of the other places on this list but there are other qualities in its favour. As well as showing sport on their TVs, one big bonus is that they seemingly never close – they are amongst the first to open in the morning &, unlike many others, stay open during “siesta” time. They serve a wide range of pintxos - both set out on the counter & a chalk board of hot specials.
Over 20 Of The Best Pintxos in San Sebastian
Bar Sport is a local culinary institution, and for good reason makes its way on every “Best Pintxos in San Sebastian,” list. While there’s a TV to watch football at the bar, sports isn’t why you come here – rather it’s the wide variety of cold and hot pintxos. Bar Sport is typically standing room only, day and night, but there are some high top tables to huddle around both inside and on the street so you can meet some new friends as they stuff their face too!
San Sebastián/Donostia
Bar Sport is a local favorite and always crowded, and one of the most fun pintxos bars in town, with a friendly staff and crowd. We didn’t have the famous sea urchin cream or the foie gras this time but instead had a mini hamburguesa txuleta, which the Basque couple next to us had also ordered, along with a plate of patatas bravas (fried potatoes with mayonnaise and hot sauce) and a few glasses of sidra (cider) before moving on.

Bar Sport‘s (Fermin Calbeton Kalea, 10) name is a nod to its popularity among locals as a great place to watch a game, but you don’t have to be a sports fan to have a good time here. Its vibrant atmosphere launches you right into local life, with flavorful, beautifully assembled pintxos in a friendly setting. And with its prime location right in the heart of the Old Town, it’s the perfect stop on any pintxos crawl.
Eating & drinking through San Sebastian, Spain
Bar Sport- I loved pretty much everything here from the pinxtos to the raciones, especially the cheese and jamon tower kebab pinxtos, salmon & crab toasts and raciones (pictured above) of grilled baby squid (txipis a la plancha), fried calamari & blistered peppers (pimientos de Gernika) covered in flake salt which is the only salt worth having. Spanish Tapas and Pintxo Trail: Barcelona, San Sebastian, Bilboa
At first, I thought this was a typical sports bar, but it is not. We had an excellent sea urchin pintxo, which was a creamy pumpkin soup with sea urchin, and also a superb foie gras pintxo, which had a generous mound of foie gras atop a slice of crispy French toast. One of the things that set this pintxo bar apart is the crispness of the toast!

Don’t be put off by the name – this busy bar in the old quarter is a haven for food lovers. A busy, buzzy spot, the thing to try here is the grilled foie gras toast but you’ll be tempted by more in the counter. The curried sea urchin cream was interesting, and who can resist a gilda – the house specialty.
