Reviews Summary

La Vieja de Jonay Hernandez is celebrated for its incredibly creative and artistically presented dishes, blending Canarian and Mallorcan influences. Diners rave about the unique flavors and theatrical serving styles, particularly enjoying the octopus, oysters, and local specialties like papas arrugadas. While the experience is largely positive, some find portions to be on the smaller side and prices to be a bit high for à la carte dining.

"Came here as part of a big group and were wowed. A little gimmicky, but in a very charming way (eg the crab was served on a patterned crab plate, the pork on a pig shaped platter). Great service; equal parts spectacle and delicious.

Highlights:
- Crab pudding: very theatrical and unexpected. Came out covered with a glass dome full of smoke, which the waitstaff removed with much gusto. Very tasty
- Bichillo: succulent Iberico pork in a ravishing sauce
- Peeled potato: extremely silly and fun dessert

Thank you for the wonderful time!"

"Highly recommended! Amazing!

The atmosphere is really nice and drawing are very cool. I think they need to arrage lighting because place looks much better than the photos.

The waitresses are super nice and can speak english. Their suggestions are sincere.

The food is omg amazing! We loved all what we ate, but our favorite was oysters… It is must to try! Fish was also very good, fried but not oily. The display of the food is also fun and nice. We took the dessert based on appearance. It was not the best, but how it looks is very cool.

The restaurant is in the center and close to many paid parking areas. There is outside sitting area but in summer it might be hot."

"Good experience!

We went there for their lunch tasting menu. My mum ordered a la carte. Her scallops were amazing!

My food was okay - definitely underwelmed as I choose this restaurant as it was featured on the Michelin Guide.

My hulk drink was the best thing I had!"

The 18 Best Restaurants In Palma De Mallorca

La Vieja turns its attention away from the Balearics and towards the chef’s home region of the Canary Islands. Splashed with colorful murals, it’s a great place for afternoon tapas on a sunny terrace—the papas arrugadas alone are worth the trip. The Canarian-style wrinkly potatoes are served in volcanic-stone bowls with two zippy mojo sauces, including a coriander blend made tableside.

The best restaurants in Palma

Palma may boast a tapas board of foodie options, but few can be as delightfully cheeky as those conjured by Tenerife-born Jonay Hernández. The youthful 39-year-old with a rockabilly quiff and a smile as broad as a benevolent shark’s formerly ran Flor de Sal in Camp de Mar. All bar stools, primary colours and brotherly camaraderie, La Vieja is his follow-up, a spirited romp through his Canary island childhood in the newly regenerated district of Sa Gerreria, which still feels refreshingly Spanish.

This bags-of-fun, charming follow-up in Palma’ s Sa Gerreria neighbourhood opened in 2018 and is known for its witty, off-kilter, art-on-a-plate tapas such as Majorquin goat tacos or more outlandish serves such as 'asparagus chips' served hanging on a mini clothes line.
