This sidrería (cider restaurant) is popular among locals and tourists alike, who come to enjoy the lively barroom atmosphere. Cider is poured from a great height, and traditional, family-style Asturian fare like fabada and tablas (cheese and charcuterie boards) are ideal for sharing. The walls are the curved staves of large wooden cider barrels, which, combined with the stone floors, provide a rustic ambience.

Another traditional Asturian sidrería (cider bar), Tierra Astur has a few branches dotted all over the region. Inside is rustic and cosy, filled with lots of dark wood, wooden benches and green glass bottles hanging from the ceiling. As well as the traditional cider, they specialise in grilled meats, as well fabada Asturiana, and cured meat and fish boards ( mar y montaña).

Opened in 2015, this spinoff of the popular sidrería Tierra Astur up the street serves food all afternoon long, with an emphasis on grilled meat.

There are many popular places to eat, the more known are: Tierra Astur (in Gascona there are two down the street there is a grill with local products and up the street there is the restaurant with every product said above. Also in the Fontán there are two: Casa Ramón with fish from the shores and Casa Amparo. Near the Cathedral there are many places to drink and eat tapas, like Plaza del Riego with restaurants of ham and El Reloj de Porlier with its great asturian and international food.

For lunch, you should return to the edge of Oviedo´s Old Quarter to the Bulevar de la Sidra and eat at one of Marino González´s Tierra Astur sidrerías, or cider houses, the one at the top of the street or at the other end of this cider house-filled street, Tierra Astur Parrilla, which specializes not only in cider, Asturian cheeses, artisanal and tapas, but grilled meats and grilled fish as well. (I will have a report on the Tierra Astur restaurants, four of the six of them, shortly.)

A popular spot among locals and visitors alike, Tierra Astur specializes in traditional Asturian dishes made with fresh, local ingredients. The rustic decor, featuring wooden tables and traditional Asturian elements, adds to the charm of the place. I had the fabada, which was hearty and satisfying, the Padrón peppers, perfectly sautéed and with just the right amount of salt, and the arroz con leche, a creamy rice pudding that was the perfect way to end the meal.

We had cider the first night at restaurant “La Pumarada”, which had an amazingly friendly staff and great atmosphere and the second night at the “Tierra Astur” Ciderhouse. I liked the cider at both places, but there seemed to be a bit more of family atmosphere at the first restaurant (well, it’s run by father and son, so perhaps not so strange) and also a bit more attention for empty glasses, etc. But I had a good time AND amazing food at both!

Around 12 cider bars (La Pumarada, Tierra Astur, El Ferroviario, La Cabana, Villaviciosa and El Pigüeña, among others) fill this bustling street, one of the region's busiest, a benchmark and pilgrimage site for lovers of the most international drink of Asturias. Cider's big day comes with the traditional 'Preba de la Sidra' ('Cider Tasting') in June, when a public vote elects the best-presented ciders by the 'llagareros' (cider makers).

Enduring inn El Ovetense has been pairing that native nectar with house specials like garlic chicken since 1959, while Tierra Astur dominates the main drag Calle Gascona with three neighbouring neo-rustic taverns – huge barrels act as seating booths, combining a stylised bar & grill with a specialised deli for local produce (wild honey, deer sausage and the rest).

With branches in Xixón, Uviéu, Avilés and Colloto it is one of Asturias’ most popular cider houses, not only because of the good cider and dishes offered, but also for its astonishing decoration. The venues show the visitors an amazing wooden decor together with cider-bottle lamps and the chance of sitting inside giant cider barrels to enjoy a unique experience.

The first time we sat down at Tierra Astur, a sidrería at the very top of the "Boulevard of Cider", it was just for drinks. But it was dinnertime and we watched with growing despondency as plate after plate of mouthwatering Asturian food was delivered to other tables. By the time we left, my stomach was growling like an angry Rottweiler.

Tucked away in the heart of Oviedo’s Old Town, Café Tierra Astur is a cozy haven for lovers of Asturian cuisine. Here, you can indulge in traditional dishes like cachopo and fabada asturiana while sipping on locally brewed cider. With its warm ambiance and hearty fare, Café Tierra Astur captures the essence of Oviedo’s culinary heritage.

Tierra Astur is a group of six restaurants spread out amongst the main cities of Asturias. It’s a bit “Disneyland “with cider barrel dining tables and a menu that resembles a garish home shopping network catalog, but they are successful for a reason; The food is damn good. Even if it feels somewhat like an Asturian theme park.

It’s a fun and fascinating part of local culture and well worth visiting a sideria such as the beautifully designed Sidrería Tierra Astur Parrilla, which alongside ciders serves up plenty of local fare as well as selling a huge range of Asturian cheeses and other local produce from its delicatessen.

Here you will find many places to try natural cider, such as La Pumarada and Tierra Astur - which also has an autoservice system. In Tierra Astur, we recommend you to try the mushrooms with cabrales cheese.

Our favorite place that we visited twice during our stay in Oviedo is Tierra Astur, which you will find at the end of the street on the corner. They also have a wonderful cheese menu.

Sidrería Tierra Astur Parrilla is most popular around 10 PM on Saturdays. Visitors usually stay 1,5-2 hours here. It's most quiet on Tuesdays.

Many scenes were filmed in Oviedo, and since it’s one of my favorite movies, I really wanted to go to Tierra Astur for a meal, so we did!
