Hacía tiempo que no disfrutaba tanto de una buena comida. Cuando era pequeño me encantaba ir a comer costillas, y las de esta sidrería de #Oviedo me devolvieron a mi infancia ❤️ Muy recomendable 🍽️ . @lachatapumarin 📍 . #Asturias #Comida #RestaurantesAsturias #Humor #Pote #Turismo #Gastronomía #CulturaAsturiana

Reviews Summary

Diners praise El Ferroviario for its outstanding service, incredible food, and the unique experience of traditional Asturian cider pouring. The meat dishes and desserts are frequently highlighted as exceptional. While the atmosphere can be lively and sometimes crowded, the attentive staff and reasonable prices contribute to a highly satisfying dining experience.

"I recommend coming here for the complete Asturian cider experience. This is because it serves at least 3 traditional ciders each from the 4 Asturian regions (Siero, Nava, Gijon, Villaviciosa). This is shown on boards next to the bar. It is also worth noting that the traditional way to serve Asturian cider is by the bottle (you can’t just have a glass), but the prices are so reasonable it doesn’t matter. You can always share with the next table. The servers are also more than happy to pour in the special Asturian way if you are sat at the bar. The two times I went, I had some tasty complimentary bar snacks brought to me (crisps and fried chicken). Some of the staff’s English isn’t 100%, but don’t be put off. The level of customer service is exceptional and I was allowed to take back the corks of the ciders I’d tried. As for the restaurant, I did not try it, but they have a modern take on Asturian classics and some “fusion” type dishes like duck tataki and cochinita pibil, which I’d have loved to try had I more time/meals in Oviedo. Bear in mind like most N.Spanish restaurants, dinner service starts from 20:00 sharp, no earlier."

"Would definitely come back. The service was outstanding and the food couldn't be better. The place felt crowded but so do all the other restaurants in the area.

Anyways, a manager came and made sure we were comfortable and apologized for the crammed room. We were actually pretty comfortable.

As for the food, the waiter guided us and made the right recommendations. We ordered a ventresca de bacalao and a fabada, for two people it was the right amount. We also tried the sidra, which they pour as pros, it's so cool to see how they do it. And a cheesecake to happily end our experience. All 3 dishes were perfectly made, even though the bacalao was fried, and the fabada is not a light dish either, we didn't feel as we ate as much. It was just great.

We paid around 55€ for all the food and drinks."

"We went for cider tasting. Walked straight to the back bar - you have a choice dry or sweet. We went dry at 6.5% alcohol- very tasty!!! And for 7€ for 2 bottles, well worth it!"

A stroll through the most appetising city in Spain this year

Around 12 cider bars (La Pumarada, Tierra Astur, El Ferroviario, La Cabana, Villaviciosa and El Pigüeña, among others) fill this bustling street, one of the region's busiest, a benchmark and pilgrimage site for lovers of the most international drink of Asturias. Cider's big day comes with the traditional 'Preba de la Sidra' ('Cider Tasting') in June, when a public vote elects the best-presented ciders by the 'llagareros' (cider makers).

A feast for foodies – why Oviedo is Spain’s new capital of gastronomy

El Ferroviario, La Manzana and La Finca are all good places to admire the art of escanciar (pouring from a great height). Alonso says the distance is crucial for producing a frothy, carbonated drink. “It’s full of molecules that have to burst,” he says, as a narrow jet shoots from the barrel’s spout.

The best foodie experiences in Asturias – Spain’s offbeat paradise for gourmands

Where to try it: Anywhere on Calle Gascona, but El Ferroviario has the honour of being the first-ever cider house on the strip, and it also serves ciders from all four cider regions of Asturias (Siero, Nava, Gijón and Villaviciosa).
